All the little detail problems with Ableton Live Collection
Re: All the little detail problems with Ableton Live Collection
042 "Reverse" setting on sampler is global. If you have made a sound with 5 layer and you want to reverse the one it is not possible.... all 5 layers will be reversed ... this is a real "OMFG WHY?"
043 Also each layer not having its own envelope (i mean a basic omfg adsr) it is a huge sound design limitation. I mean come on ... why should i load 5-6 samplers in a rack to do the job... WhyTF its name is "Sampler"

quantisation algorythm of lives midi clips is underdeveloped and on the most possible primitve stage..
it should act like a better 1980s quantisation to achive better results...
oh yeah, the midi quantization is horrible, and makes blatant mistakes.
Such a shame, it's like every ableton employee is midi illiterate as they have no clues on many midi issues. Like putting audio mutes on their drum racks (they should be midi). And yeah programs from the 80ies put ableton live's midi functions to shame, and quantizing is such an important function. I quantize by hand note by note ...thank you abes

agree the automation curves are so under developed (and at V8!!!) it's terrible. They should take their cues from program like Softimage or Lightwave in witch it's really easy to manipulate functions curves. They are so primitive and a pain to use in live. I would like to be able to scale curves, move points with x/y constraints, gee all that has been put in use in other programs extensively why don't they take a clue

you cant load while playing or deal with multiple projekts at once..
thats actually not a detail... rather big evil that forces users to build either monsterszse live sets for stage work or having rather playback shows with long prerecorded sections..
EXACTLY, live is hard to use live, even requesters are in the way when you hurry up to load another song (witch is called a set, and should not be a set at all) I love tweaking the synths live so big samples sets make a DJ out a me. So for a program to work in a live environment you have to have a way in switch songs are ordered and then simply switched in while your previous song is playing. The fact is that Ableton simply calls a songfile a "set" and dispensed itself from thinking about any mechanism for playing live. COme on, each song is a dream to play by itself using apc40 and all, but trying to make a "songfile" of about 20-30 of those tracks into 1 live set is an impossibility, unless I render everything to wav --> then I become a DJ because I can't even tweak a synth. So to me that is the big pitfall, only trigging clips is not any more fun than playing guitar hero (stupid and retarded if you are a musician!)
In all of my shows with live I had to have gaps while I load my next track (while fighting with requesters: "are you sure you want to stop audio" or "your song have been changed" etc).., and call a track a set all you want Ableton, but it's simply not realistic.

no multichannel midi
yeah that's a bummer, but I could live with that if I could at least export multichannel midi files. I spend an inordinate amount of time re-builing track-by-track songs I exported from live. Since I started exporting midi to the MPC.... or any other hardware sequencer... outch! I miss that feature, enough to stop using live as my midi composition/scratchpad tool.

Not being able to access mixer parameters of the individual tracks inside a drum or instrument rack via a controller such as the APC-40.

047 why do i need to stop the whole set, just to reverse one clip? bonkers, i tell you...
I'm going home
Re: All the little detail problems with Ableton Live Collection
048 really random access to parameters. Some you can control with a mouse, some are midi mappable, some can be controlled by a clip envelope, some can be automated, some can be modulated by a lfo. A few are all of these. Sampler is a particularly baffling repeat offender. If I can move it with a mouse I should be able to automate it using midi.

Automation: when editing the automation envelope with the mouse and you drag the line up or down you don't get to hear the effect until you let go of the mouse. (just been cursing this one)

50 - midi overdub in Arrange.. does not always overdub.. it sometimes overwrites.
Overdubbing notes presently overwrites all Automation.
We need an option or way to play and record in new notes while keeping our precious automation intact.
Make the overdub button... Overdub for automation as well.

Cock teasing: excellent re-arranging of vsts parameters in devices, but from here on its not possible to record them in session view! Etc, etc. The list is long!
I love music interfaces that just do what youd expect. Like the feeling you get with NanoStudio or Machine.

transient marker placement is not done for groove extraction..
its a multipurpose algorythm that even reacts on pitch changes but dont really cares too much about transient precision.. but for groove design we need transient precision.
in the actual vesion of live we need to set all transient markes by hand again.. thats a lot of work for the 21th century.. you know.. we live iin the world of tomorow..
so.. either an extra transient marker algo for beat extraction.. or optimizing the actual one..
the actual version goes to the zero crossing before the next positive transient.. negative ones go unrealized... and the zrocrossing is of cause very variably on any material with low frequency content.. .. of there is an offset befpre the transient needed it should be a fixed one with fade...so the grove extraction has a fixed pffest it can substract..
.
or at least a straight on transient peak automation for the groove extraction...

there is no way to apply a groove without getting the sampleate conversion on....
theoretical it would be thinklable that ther would be a slice beat warp mode... that works with little fades and gaps.. but this would need the defined offset technique as before and is maybe different to achive..however the results on percussive stereo recordings with natural rooms would be pleasing.. this goes up to the range of piano recordings...

no triolic beatwarp.. the standard beatwarps without transient base are still usefull on electronic styles.. just a bit limited because they are only on 4 related counting times..
