UAD-1 (VST version) is crashing Live 4.0 all the time

I just purchased the Universal Audio UAD-1 studio effects card/package. The plugs are great, but it's making my dual 1.25 G4 crash (kinda violently) every time I use them.
I'm running Mac OS 10.3.4 and Live 4.0, and for hardware, I've got a digidesign 001.
I called Universal Audio for tech support and they recommended upgrading to Mac OS 10.3.9 and Live 4.1, but I just read in this forum that someone else found using 10.3.9 was a total nightmare and they downgraded to 10.3.7. I'm not all that concerned with having the absolute latest software upgrades, I'm just looking to end the crashes.
Can anyone illuminate me?

I'm running UAD-1 (versj.3.8 ) on my rig, but I got a pc, not a mac. No probs/dropouts/crasches/bluescreens so far (had it a year now). But it's on a pc, tho.. Btw, I'm running Live 1.x to 4.x; 4.1.2 for the moment.

I'm using UAD with Live and it work quit well except for some minor visual bug around button of the 1176. But again I'm on a PC too

to myztmuzic: By the way do you have the same graphic bug or does the UAD work perfectly?

Nope, Digital Indian, no graphic bugs here. UAD-1 works perfectly -so far.. Never heard of that bug before either. I'm running vst only, btw..
