I'm running ableton 8.2.1 on a pc with windows 7
When I drag and drop a song from itunes into ableton, warp it and save the clip, i'm seeing an additional M4A (or mp3 in some cases) file saved in the source file rather than an .asd file as i would expect.
Ableton is set to create asd's in the preferences. I have "view all file types" set in windows, but cannot see an asd file...only an additional m4a, or mp3.
My files in itunes are MPEG-4 or 3 in the cases that i have spotted.
Any help warmly appreciated.

Yep, definately.
I also just dragged an MPEG4 directly from lives browser (pointed to my itunes music file)... clicked save on the clip... and a brand new M4A duplicate gets added in the source file just for the track i copied in, ..but no asd file as far as i can see.

..by the way, when i close the set and load the clip into a new set, the clip settings are as saved. ( I put the start marker half way through the track, and it was in the same position upone reloading)...
..so, it looks like the clip info is actually saved somwhere.

I solved my problem.
I noticed that I was not in fact showing the file extensions in my browser, even though i thought i was.
It initially appeared as if the .asd files were being saved as .mp3 in the source folders, however they were copying the file extension in the name, giving the appearance that they were in the wrong format.
I.e, they were being saved as ...song.MP3.ASD
The .asd only being visible when my browser was set to show file extensions properly.

One of the first things I do on a new computer is UnCheck "hide known file extensions". I've always found it annoying that anyone would think that hiding a file extension could be a useful thing and that it's still the default setting even today in Win7.
