question..."colleact all and save"... asd file duplicated?

Post by simon pieman » Sat Oct 23, 2010 4:15 pm

Hello,
I have a general question.
When I work on a DJ set using songs from my itunes library, the .asd file is created in the source folder.
OK, so if i save the set using "collect all and save", I assume that ane .asd file is also saved in another location.
Does this mean that i now have 2 .asd files referencing the same song?

What happens if i realise my warping was not so good first time arouns and I redo it.
Does the original asd get updated? Only the one in the "collect all and save" file, or both?

Just curious.

Simon

When you drag a song into Live, Live makes .asd file in the location that song came from.

So, if you drag a song from iTunes into Live, Live will make a .asd file in your iTunes library in the same exact folder that the song came from.

When you "Collect all and Save" Live collects all of the files in the project and saves them into that project's "Samples" folder.

So, if you "Collect all and Save", then re-warp a song, it will ONLY effect the .asd file in that project's "Samples" folder.

I hope this helps you, and I hope it's 100% accurate, I'm pretty sure it is though. :D

Thanks very much, that's realyy appreciated.

So, if i'm slowly builing up my collection of warped songs for DJ'ing, it makes more sense to "not use" the collect all and save, so that playlists can be managed by itunes, rather than collecting all and saving sets via ableton.

remixes/re-edits/projects would be easier to manage using collect all and save.

I guess this file management part comes down to person pref.

Cheers for the replies.
