UNEXCUSABLE! PATHETIC! ... PLEASE CORRECT THIS!

Post by beolshika » Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:51 pm

This costed me a very special performance...

in the end... my fault because i did not test beforehand... but assumed that what i did would work....

anyways.. here it is...

If you move the video window from one monitor to another monitor... and blow it up to full screen... such as what you would do when performing live and doing audio and effect manipulation during video playback... therein lies a very serious problem

if you happen to edit some other sound software such as soundhack or maxmsp in the video screen that is not the one for video playback.... then anytime you select that third party software window... the third pary software window will appear on the video playback window... ruining the performance

when i try this is microsoft powerpoint... and select to have my slides on one monitor... and my notes on another... and then select maxmsp in the notes window... it does not show up on the slide window...

that video window should keep playing the video as long as i do not drag anything else to that window...

i shouldn't be limited to clicking only in the ableton window...

what if i need to find something in finder... or make some adjustments in another program... this should be possible... i mean it is possible in powerpoint...

this wouldn't be so much a problem if multichannel support was available for maxforlive...

until that happens.. i am screwed

tis true that ableton is not a vj'ing program, but it should at least be able to support a video monitor that is unaffected by what happens in the other editing monitor. i mean come on... powerpoint can handle it. no more excuses

Maybe cause it's dead easy to try and produce new ideas... Or maybe because there are so many creative ways to use it like no other DAW... Maybe because it is a real instrument in sequencer disguise.

Fanboy-ism aside, I have to agree with madlab. At my current working place (film music) I use Logic for most of the arrangement-related stuff because it's industry standard in Germany, has better video implementation and score editing, but I always come back to Live when it comes to finding and creating sounds and new concepts.

Problem is that Live is a DAW = Digital AUDIO workstation not a video workstation. A lot depends what you want in your program, a jack of all trades or something more specialized. In a DAW video is always going to be a compromise as it selling power is in its audio capabilities.

Video I would use premiere, final cut, Edius or Avid.

I always used Edius to edit video and import the WAV file from Live.

i agree... live should invest most of its resource into audio capabilities...

but i still think that they can fix the program so that when you place the fullscreen video monitor in another monitor such as a huge projection screen... it will stay in that screen. currently, it will flash and switch with what you are editing in the computer screen monitor...ruining the possibility of a perfectly able performance. if it can't handle this.. then just remove the video option altogether. like i said, powerpoint is a presentation software and can handle this. i don't think it would take much processing to do this.. they might have to edit their video source code. i'm not asking for fades, loops, effects, etc etc.
