Novation Automap Question
Novation Automap Question
I'm currently creating a custom template for Reaktor's lazerbass ensemble within Novation's automap software.
I want to be able to map the top row of buttons on the Remote SL to act as switches for the 'Oscillator Type' on lazerbass. I want to have it so each button will be the switch for each waveform type (there are 8 buttons and 8 waveform types - cool!)
E.g so when I press button one it chooses dual saw, button 3 chooses pulse waveform and so on so I can easily preview the waveform types.
Anyone got any ideas how this can be done either within the Automap software or otherwise?
Thanks,

Re: Novation Automap Question
you need to assign your buttons to all send the same midi command at different values.
here is an example.
CC#1 button 1 = 0 - button 2 = 16, button 3 = 32 etc...
then map that controller to the lazerbass wave select parameter.
buttons should be in momentary mode.

Re: Novation Automap Question
That depends on whether he's trying use an automap template, or a standard midi template though. This method is using standard cc approach whereas it sounds like he's going for the automap route, which uses automation values. So if that's what you're trying to do, keep in mind that only one automap template can be made per plug-in at a time, so a lazerbass template would always be active when using reaktor. Anyways, if that's ok, you'll first have to see if the waveform selector is automatable. If you hit learn on an SL template and switch the waveform and it gets learned to a control, then it's all good. If not then you're out of luck. So if it's automatable, then learn it to all 8 buttons, as mentioned above. But then you'll have to set the range in the min and max fields in the automap window. I'm not sure if this will work, but see if there's a way you can set the overall parameter min and max (like 1 andmike_o wrote:you need to assign your buttons to all send the same midi command at different values.

Otherwise, if that doesn't work out, then you're best going with a regular midi template and then as Mike suggests, you can send a midi value with the buttons. But this will depend on whether that control is midi learnable.

Re: Novation Automap Question
Unfortunately neither of these methods work. I was trying to go down the automap route originally but have tried the suggestion with the MIDI map and have the same problem.
The problem seems to be when I press each button it switches on and off ALL the other buttons, even when I change the values in the bottom right of the automap menu.

Re: Novation Automap Question
Ok, just got it to work with automap.
Here's what you do:
Go into the automap settings and hit 'unlock min & max settings'.
Now learn all 8 buttons to the box by hitting learn and selecting the box.
Then set each button's max to 7, leave the min at 0.
Now assign each button a different value from 0 to 7.
Now set each buttons mode to 'Normal' instead of toggle.
Done. You can now select the 8 different wave types by selecting one of the buttons and it toggles across them. The only thing is that the value shown on the SL screen doesn't really mean anything, but that's because those are the values of the parameter, as you can see if you hit configure on the device and learned the box to an ableton device parameter as well. But it does toggle between the 8 perfectly and lights up the selected.
Hope that helps.

Re: Novation Automap Question
By the way the value that the parameter sends is not necessarily the same as the parameter step number. The values it sends appear to numbers between 0 and 7, but one must be missing because there are two 0's on either ends. But pay no attention to that. You assign the step value yourself within a range that you set as well. So the values you assign could just as well be 2 to 16 with a step value of 2, it would have the same effect. It would go through the full range in eigths. And since there are 8 possible values, stepping through an eigth at a time steps through each value.
Anyways I didn't even know for sure until I tried it that a selector could be assigned to multiple buttons to toggle between the different values, so that's cool.

glitchrock_buddah you are an absolute star - this works perfectly. I had thought I had tried what you had suggested already but must have been missing a vital step. This is so handy now for trying changing between waveform types at a touch of a button!
Thanks again

Re: Novation Automap Question
No problem, glad to see it's working for you! I hadn't actually tried that before, it's handy. This is the kind of thing that makes automap great and is so much better than regular midi. It's a shame more people don't see the benefits, for some reason a lot of people get put off by it...fixed_up wrote:glitchrock_buddah you are an absolute star - this works perfectly.
