Crackles and pops with ESI ESU1808

Post by Varming » Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:56 pm

I just got the ESI ESU1808 and a bucket of problems with Ableton...

Whenever I play some audio - MP3s, MIDI, whatever I get a lot of crackles and pops. When I play the same MP3s in iTunes, Traktor Pro etc. there is no problems. Neither is there problems with the sound in Logic 9.

The really strange is that if I keep the Preferences window open in Ableton (8.2 Suite) there is NO problems with the sound. As soon as I close the Preferences window the crackles and pops starts again. Open Preferences and it's gone, close the window and the noises are back - it never fails. I've tried with all the sample rates, buffer sizes etc. but nothing works - except keeping the Preferences open but I can't open preferences all the time, then why use Ableton at all...

Anybody came across this or has the crackles and pops and try testing if the Preferences window can make it go away - just open Preferences and see if the noises stops.

For now Ableton is useless to me ... :(

UPDATE

I'm using my Macbook Pro with a secondary display. When I close the lid on my Macbook Pro and only use the secondary display the crackles and pops are there. I just tried keeping the lid on the Macbook open and use Ableton on the Macbook display - there it works perfectly!

So for now the conclusion is that I either has to work on the 13" display (instead of my 26" secondary) or open Preferences every time I want to listen to the tracks on the secondary display... :( :(

NEW UPDATE

Just googled more info on this: There is problems with OSX and applications running fullscreen on the secondary display. I just tested it and if I got Live fullscreen there is the crackles and pops, if I just make Live a bit smaller than fullscreen then the noises are gone again. Seems to be the solution for now.

4 hours until I have to get up and get to work... sigh...
