intermittent latency - have to relaunch Live 8

In Preferences/Audio/, Overall Latency is 17.6 ms, and when I start a new live set after opening Live 8, I have normal, quick, response to recording from my M3 via L and R audio out.

I will record a track, delete it, record again, etc until I get it right. But sometimes during this exercise, when I hit global record and start playing, there is perceptible, aggravating latency; too much to tolerate.

I have solved this problem every time by quitting and restarting Live.

Is there a way to do this "reset" without having to restart the application?
