about to be an ableton live user.. but first...

Post by glu » Thu May 19, 2005 1:15 am

Hey everyone, I have been enjoying "surfing" the various threads here about ableton, I have done a bit of research on this wonderful program, I have the Pro Tools version of Live and I am deciding to buy this awesome musical tool... but first...

I have seen a couple of places online selling version 4 with the O2 controller for around $370 US, that doesn't seem right, does it?

here is the link to the place I might get it at
http://www.scitscat.com/catalog/product ... cts_id/651

Does this look legit? Its at skitskat.com...
just looks too good (and cheap) to be true.

also, would I have to pay any additional fees to upgrade to the LATEST 4.xx VERSION? thanks everyone!

I don't know about that retailer, that price looks way strange.
M-Audio website lists them as a dealer though, which is strange because I think there are dealer agreements for some things where you agree not to advertise a price lower than a certain amount.. .

If you buy Live 4 boxed, all the Live 4 bug fixes/updates will be free. But, Live 5 may be coming out in a few months, which will be like 150 or 125 USD or something I think for an upgrade.

Good luck--live is awesome, you will have fun.

Enjoy - you're going to LOVE Live, coming from PT. No offence intended to PT, it's just that the workflow and productivity benefits of Live are so far ahead of everything else. :) Bear in mind that Live 5 will probably be released in a couple of months (there are deals on Live 4 appearing all over the net as dealers start to clear their shelves).

I'm actually going the other way at the moment - adding PT M-Powered to my setup (slaving Live) as I've started working on a long project with some people in a PT studio. I'll still be doing virtually everything in Live though of course!

if you've got the PT version, surely the upgrade path via Abe's website is the cheapest option?

as for live 5... if i remember correctly, when live 4 was released they had a free upgrade thing last time if you purchased it within a month before the release...

Well, I don't want to go and buy a version if the next will be out in a few months.
I mean I DO WANT TO BUY A VERSION OF LIVE, just the latest and greatest. Would the average US retail price still be around $400? As cheap as some places are advertising it, I could just go azhead and get it- then upgrade in a few months...hmmmmm......what would you guys do? :?:
