MJ Harmonic Ping Only - OS X Snow Leopard
MJ Harmonic Ping Only - OS X Snow Leopard
hi all -
i was using the MJ Harmonic Ping Only vst from Magnus @ smartelectronix way back when i used a powerbook (PPC). i'd like to keep using it, but can't get Live to see the vst. any suggestions?
i have Live 4.x installed and running (occasionally) under Rosetta - it sees the vst without any trouble.
also: i don't seem to have any Audio Units in either of the usual locations (/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/, or ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components). did Snow Leopard change something around with this? of note: Live 8.1.x sees the AUs without any trouble.
thanks for your time,
bds

It sounds like this plug-in was never released as a Universal Binary - you might try contacting Smartelectronix about it.
As to the Library, did you have a custom folder set up for plug-ins in Live 8.1?

And the plug-ins aren't appearing in Finder either? That's the really odd part - sounds like Snow Leopard might have done something.
Re: MJ Harmonic Ping Only - OS X Snow Leopard
i just had an opportunity to check a mac running tiger (10.4.11) - the audio units are kept in
/Library/Audio/Presets
weird....
if anyone has any suggestions, i'd love to hear them -- just for peace of mind.

That's not where you want to keep your plug-ins - Live won't find them there unless you custom-path the folder.
The correct folder for AU plug-ins is ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

cheers David -
my apologies; i was referring to the default AU location in os x.4.11 (tiger), i.e. /Library/Audio/Presets.
all of the macs i've check running snow leopard (and leopard, so 10.5 and 10.6) have empty /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components directories.
i realize this is almost pointless handwringing, but would still appreciate verification from someone running leopard/snow leopard that their default apple AUs are | aren't in /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components OR ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components. i guess this isn't completely handwringing, because if i want to add AUs to my mac (and use them in AULab or some other program, not just ableton) i'd like to know where the rest of them are.
thanks again for the responses, David. i appreciate your time & trouble.
cheers,

Hi BDS, no problem - I can tell you that in my own MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, the Audio Unit plug-ins are pathed as I described. If you want to continue using the old paths, then you just need to go to Preferences->MIDI in Live and set a custom folder.
