Q: Insert Effects on Groups ?

I have a question. I would love to use a VST filter effect on some channels. The only problem is that I cannot use a send track for that [or am I wrong ?]

I wish there was a way to assign certain tracks to a send track [or a group], and add a filter on that group. This would only affect the tracks assigned to that group ... is that possible with the current version ?

The send tracks seem to be good for echo's and additive effects [chorus and stuff], but not for insert effects ?

You're right, send tracks are not for insert effects: how ever, you can use a send track as a bus by setting the send to pre-fader, then lowering the volume of the track. It's not an ideal way of doing it, but it does work.

Are you saying Live does not have the ability to create groups and effects busses? So you have to run a seperate instance of an effect for every track you want to use it on? That can't be right. That would use up CPU too fast. And that would severely limit your ability to mix.

you can use the sends to set effects. (just tried it) just click on the send itself (send 1 .. send 2.. etc) and it will bring up the drop effects here on the bottom.. click and drag the effect to it... now if you want the group of clips you are using to only go to the effected send, make sure you select your out channel to sends only.. other than that... make sure your send volumes are up.. by using this you can effect multiple clicks using different effects on different sends.. and you are not limited to only two sends either.. you can add a new send track as easily as you add a new track.. now only if they can add an on/off send button by(or on) each send knob .. hope that solves your problem

...yes, it works as Neil suggests. Notice that the ability to route a track to "Sends Only" is new to version 1.5, a beta version of which you can download now.
