Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
Reaper has a lot of good ideas I would love to see implemented in Live:
1. Route any signal / any track to any other signal / track. Route audio signals to midi events, vice versa.
2. Customization - Reaper can be customized to accomodate your workflow. Key commands, cursors, region / track lists, menu items.

Reaper is seriously good.
it does a lot of things that LIVE cannot do and its FREE or $60...
So I am thinking maybe Maschine + Reaper & Renoise.

To be fair, Live can do a lot that neither Maschine, Reaper, and Renoise cannot do as well.Ben_Binary wrote:Reaper is seriously good.

Edited because I made no sense.

Watch out for that slippery slope.leedsquietman wrote:Reaper is a fair enough program for what it is. I personally think it is a bit TOO lean with regard to sound content and inbuilt instruments...

Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
Off the top of my head:
1. Session View
2. Easy resampling that I can drag and drop into Sampler/Simpler.
3. Racks.

Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
DJSynchro! Have you tried using the free SHORTCIRCUIT sampler? I just started dabbling with it and it works for what I use a sampler for (drums, percussion, effects).
Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
for tracking and mixing i absolutely love reaper. i also like live alot. to me they are two different beasts.

Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!
"Live feels bloated" most be one of your most vacuous statement of all times, even compared to "It just works". Ok: I agree on the loading time — Live does take too long time loading, but other than that, Live is really just a Session view and an Arrangement view. It (and particularly the Suite version) has a bunch of great devices and tonnes of sound content (that I, too, never use), but that's it. As far as opening a blank project, I can't imagine a leaner, neater and more unbloated interface.
Like someone mentioned earlier, Live is what it is today because enough users have requested more DAW functionality. There are constantly people who moan that Live doesn't have this and that feature of another DAW. On the other hand, you have people who want Live stripped of DAW features and reduced to a mere performance tool. Now it's bloated too.
I don't understand what the big deal is: if Live doesn't do this one essential thing that you've got in Sonar or whatever: what is it about Live that stops you from using Sonar? If Live has too many DAW features — what is it about those features that stops you from simply not using them? — stay in Session view, FFS! And if Live feels "bloated" — what's stopping you from using the ... Launchpad Edition

Reaper beats the shit out of Live for tracking and mixing.
Live beats the shit out of Reaper for creative experimentation, sound mangling, and performance (of course).
Reaper is a tape deck and mixer; Live is a sampler/sequencer/instrument.
Simples.
