Hi there,
I have upgraded my OS from win XP to windows 7. All plugins I use seem to work just as fine after the migration, but I am facing a major problem with my copy of PSP 84 (Lexicon Effect). This effect still works fine with win7, but it shows a different identifying name in ableton:
Its name has suddenly changed from "PSP84VST" to "PSP 84", resulting in a plugin-initialisation-error when trying to load any track using the "PSP84VST". When loading the track, ableton complains about not being able to find the effect "PSP84VST" and refuses to load the plugin.
Apart from this, the effect "PSP 84" works fine under win7. But I would have to redo all the settings (including the MIDI-routing) for all the tracks using the "PSP84VST", which is a very annoying task, especially since I am talking about numerous tracks which take use of "PSP84VST" whose plugin-settings have to be reset...
Is there a way to change the name which a vst-plugin uses to identify itself? Or can I force ableton to load the plugin anyways, or at least get hold of the plugin-settings somehow, even if ableton isn´t capable of loading it correctly?
any help will be gladly appreciated, cheers.

Re: VST-name-variation cause Ableton not to load plugin (psp84)
You could try renaming the file PSP 84.dll (in your plugin folder) to PSP84VST.dll.
To rename it, select the file in explorer and hit F2 and enter the new name.

hey twisted-space,
thanks a lot for your hint, but I have tried this already. if i do this, the vst-effect entirely disappears from the vst-effect-list in ableton. only by renaming it back to "psp 84", i can make it reappear.
cheers. t

Re: VST-name-variation cause Ableton not to load plugin (psp84)
You would need to do a "Rescan" in Lives preferences after you've remaned it, maybe even an Alt+Rescan
Re: VST-name-variation cause Ableton not to load plugin (psp84)
I suspect the name that shows in live's browser isn't necessarily derived from the .DLL's filename, but perhaps from a name that's stored within the dll. WIN7/XP obviously read it different...
Have you tried reporting this to PSPaudioware ? Might be a simple fix. They should at least know what's going on...
