CPU overload 2.02/OSX

Here's my set-up:G4 dp 500/1024 meg
OSX.2.4
MOTU 828
LIVE 2.0.2
It takes 3-4 audio clips no plug-ins and my CPU is already showing 60% usage!
What is happening?

Try it in OS 9, you might be surprised at the difference.
One thing for sure - in OS X you'll be running *all* audio channels of your 828, even if you've only got a stereo output running, which loads the CPU. In Live under OS 9 you can disable unused channels.
With any luck Ableton will fix this soon.

i'm running a setup less powerful then that and getting better performance so i don't think that is just an OS 9 thing. i'm guessing the motu driver as the only main difference in my setup is the soundcard (using an imic). I think someone else said here that all 8 inputs from the motu device are read causing the system to overload quickly.

Performance on my brand-new Ti 867 w/ Motu 828 isn't blazing either--- I would guess it's the combination of tools (Mac + Ableton Live) rather then a configuration issue.
