Am I missing something? If I'm not then yes Cubase is a good product, on which many a good producer learned their trade. Me for one

I have Cubase 5 and it's arrangement page (and dual monitor support with arrangement on one monitor and mixer(s) on the second) is definitely a strength and one reason why I prefer to export my audio and MIDI from Live and often mix with Cubase.

Before fanboys step in to defend the honour of Live, I would also point out that I compose all my tracks in Live and there are many strengths in Live which Cubase can't compete with either, so it's great to have both !

you mean Cubase as a nice interface ? that's it ?
I think it looks good as well, and I'm kind of nostalgic and I want to launch it again like when I was learning the basics.
Like Short Scope Boy said, lots of producers started on Cubase, and I wonder why.

It looks a lot better than it used to, but IMO Cubase and Sonar are both fugly DAWs in general.
Live, DP, Studio One all have better GUIs. Go to give it up to Cubase for VST technology though.

^ +1 for VST

and the best thing about using it... press F3 and you've got a floating mixer at your disposal... if/when Live does that it will be so 8)

I hate what Cubase looks like. And I've become too fond of pulling the timeline in Live :>

I wouldn't say I hate Cubase, but Live's GUI is second to none. I love it. Quick navigation, quick results. In fact, Presonus Studio One has adopted the Live style, pulling timeline; works a treat.

Studio One really is a very good DAW. Works well as a high end Audio editor/FX processor, which is my main use for it. The staple FX are superb. The Room Reverb is pure class.

Well worth a look, to use in tandem with Live.

GUIS are all subjective, but I hate Sonar's GUI and Logic until v8 made me want to puke. Protools until v8 used to be the most boring grey and dull GUI.

Cubase's GUI is really good IMO, the arrange page and mixer especially but could use a few refinements - the way windows don't stay maximized in some actions can be annoying.

Studio One - written by 2 ex Steinberg employees (who mostly worked on Nuendo, which is a very similar GUI to Cubase). Studio One is promising but still lacks some of the functionality of more developed DAWS, I expect as it evolves to about version 3 that it will be a killer DAW.

Single window/tabbed/dockable windows aren't really my thing. I hated Live's GUI at first, but have grown accustomed to it and now like it's simple functionality, but I HATE the Session view screen for mixing, especially across dual monitors. I love Cubase's mixer, the only thing I would like to improve with it is the ability to colour the whole channel strip, like in Protools and Reaper.

I love the gooey aspect of Live's GUI... its what moved me over from Cubase... but like I said, that floating mixer can't be beat. You can keep everything else in Live visually just the way it is, but give me my mixer when I'm in Arrange view... I like to record instruments in that way. Clips are cute and all when you have your little collection of samples or after you have things recorded, but during the process I want to see my tracks with all of their peaks and valleys.

I can't really stand the look of any DAW besides Ableton Live and Logic. Obviously that's mostly because I know them, but I do feel they are both less cluttered looking than anything else. Studio One looks promising, but even that, I really don't like their mixer where plug-ins open to the side creating multi-panels channel strips. I just don't think it's that nice to look at either.
