UAD-1 + Live users - Speak Up!!
AdamJay wrote:actually, i just did some more research on it looks like the penalty of PCI-X isn't that you'll use more host CPU. i was confusing the Powercore/Live issue with this.
the penalty is that the UAD-1 on PCI-X will usually perform at only 85% its capacity (some folks have reported as low as 65% capacity)
so for instance, instead of running 20 LA-2As, on PCI-X you'll only be able to run 13 to 17 of them. or 6 to 8 CS-1 channel strips, rather than 10. (these examples are at 44.1khz)
but i still think the Project Pak plus the $149 LA-2A for $399 total is a steal... weather you can run 10 of em or 20 of em. the whole reason i want the UAD-1 is the LA-2A
What?! I think I could definitely live with that until they get it resolved.!! My junk isn't a grip of tracks anyway--16 to 24 or so, so I'm good! man, even 10 LA-2A's is lovely!!

and they've said the next update will have "Improved G5 operation", so things could be getting resolved or at the very least improved in the next month or so.
also, speculating for the future... lets say Live 5 gives us PDC AND Freeze.
it will be great when we can not only compensate for the delay from the UAD-1, but also freeze its processing to tracks that no longer need any tweaking.. that frees up more DSP to use on other tracks.
it would be like.... wonderland!!!

Even now, if tracks don't need more tweaking we can bounce them, so processor can still be freed up. Man, I didn't even look at that deal where you could purchase the LA-2A seperately. I was set to spend $800 or so on the studio pack. Thanks for that enlightenment, bro.AdamJay wrote:and they've said the next update will have "Improved G5 operation", so things could be getting resolved or at the very least improved in the next month or so.

the deal i'm speaking of is the Project Pak, and you get the LA-2A for FREE until June 30th. no need to purchase the LA-2A seperately, they give it to you if you buy before July.rahlo wrote:

so thats project pak + LA-2A for $399. that my friends, is unfuckwithable.
Yeah, I got the project pack originally just for what was included plus the LA-2A & Fairchild compressor... since then I've purchased several more after trying out their free 2 week demos on the other (and how cool is it that you can try one demo out at a time so you can really spend some time with 'em!).
Now the Plate reverb is essential, the Cambridge EQ and that Precision Limiter which blows the Waves +L1 out of the water! And now with the new Boss/Roland stuff coming... woo hoo!

I own the dual 1.8 G5 second version. I dont have any pci-x slots so should not be hit with that problem. I am worried that I will get as poor results from the UAD-1 card in terms of cpu hit as i do with the powercore. Is there anyone out there that now has both of these cards? using them on a mac with no pci-x slots. If so PLEASE let me know how they compair in terms of cpu hit. I cant even max out my powercore card beofore my computer bonks! if I did not love the powercore virus so much i would return it.
hope there is some solid answers out there somewhere as I would like to pick up the uad before the end of the month. Peace, and thanks!

ABIT NF7+AMDXP@2500, RME Multiface, TC Powercore Element+Virus, UAD-1, Nord Lead2, Reason2.5, impOSCar, Microtonic, Reaktor5 and some other stuff...
While I don't have the Powercore, my partner recently bought one and then returned it because of this problem. He really wanted to keep it and hope that the problem would be fixed but the people at TC Electronics were the ones to convince him to return it rather than expect a fix. (Pretty honorable on their part I must say).
However, this is a problems specific to the Powercore. The UAD PCI-X problem is something different and from what I understand they're working on having it fixed by the next software update (they have an article about this in the 'support' section of their webzine which you can find on their website).
I find the UAD currently adds a very slight load per plug-in which supposedly has something to do with communication between the card and Live but it isn't anything major and I expect will be improved soon...
Even if it isn't I don't care.. the plugs are so amazing it's worth it.
My 2 cents...

Is the uad card tiger compatible?
