Yup, this would make Maschine function as a VST wrapper for DAWs like Logic, just like Kore does. Also for Logic users, this means now there's a way to get around the issue of Logic not allowing MIDI output from an AU plugin to drive another plugin.bridgealantee wrote:The real question is can you use vst's within maschine while using maschine AS a vst. That would be pretty dope. Might have to be me a maschine.

It's a lot more than that. The manager/librarian stuff's what I use the least to be honest; I use that mostly for storing automation templates.I don't own Kore but isn't it just a VST host and universal preset manager...or am I missing something ? Don't see why maschine is gonna have any effect on that ?
What's special about Kore is the enhanced resolution, the ability to reorder and/or hide parameter IDs, the internal routings, etc. Why both controllers? You can keep the Maschine controller in Maschine mode, and use the Kore controller for your plugin controller.
Maschine inside Kore is sick; Kore inside Maschine will be even more so =)

hey ew, can you explain the process of enhanced resolution a bit further?ewistrand wrote:Definitely.dum wrote:vsts hosting vsts is no big deal, maschine is gonna do that too guaranteed. Sure. You have 512 steps for automation in Kore controller mode vs the 128 steps you get with a MIDI controller.

ok cool.... the benefit being that it enables a smoother transition of parameters.ewistrand wrote:Sure. You have 512 steps for automation in Kore controller mode vs the 128 steps you get with a MIDI controller.

I guess i'm wondering if this works with 3rd party vst's parameters? or would that depend on how it was coded to work?

Kore's automation is based on track automation, which is 512, so every modern plug in has that resolution.am wrote:ok cool.... the benefit being that it enables a smoother transition of parameters.ewistrand wrote:Sure. Control Surfaces like the Mackie Control are able to use MIDI to generate more than 128 steps, but basic MIDI only generates 128 steps, so most controllers only generate 128 steps as they're using MIDI automation rather than track automation.
That's all the things I know, I don't know any more things.

Question for Maschine users: how does it handle loops?
What I mean is, I assume you can chop loops up and play slices back via the pads. But how many slices (i.e. just 16 to match the number of pads)?
And can you timestretch loops in a similar way to Live's clips?

you can have banks of pads to page through your slices, and no timestretching until the next version of the OS.

You can either slice a loop up to a group or a single pad. If you do it to a group, then you get 16 pads because each groups has 16 sounds/pads in it. But you can also slice a loop to a single pad, in which case you get the full midi piano roll for that pad and you can also go into a mode where you play a single pad chromatically over all pads. So like Tim said, you'd get banks of pads in that case.Leon Tricker wrote:Question for Maschine users: how does it handle loops?

We don't know that timestretching will be in the next update. It's probably the most requested feature, even more so that plug-in support, but still they haven't said anything about that. Since both Kontakt and Battery have it, I'm surprised it's not in Maschine yet, but no doubt that it will be at some point. We know for sure that if it's not in the next update, at least we'll be able to load Kontakt or something to timestretch loops if we want.timothyallen wrote:you can have banks of pads to page through your slices, and no timestretching until the next version of the OS.

Actually this is what they said the last time they talked about the timestretch feature which was back in June during the On The Record sessions:glitchrock-buddha wrote: We don't know that timestretching will be in the next update. In the meantime, you can already do lofi timestretch in Maschine now using a similar method that old-school samplers did, like you hear on 90's jungle records. But for realtime timestretching, I'll be using Kontakt's Time Machine inside Maschine until we get it built-in.

Well, my next music performance/production 'move' will be next year. The three options will be:
1. Stick with Live, but this will mean buying a new laptop (because my current one is dying.) I really need a better audio interface too.
2. Maschine... but again I'd need a new laptop & interface.
3. Elektron Octatrack.
Choices choices...

Right, I meant they haven't said anything about it being in the next update. One would hope they could just take the functionality out of Kontakt or Battery so in that respect it seems like an easier addition than VST hosting. Hopefully next update. I wouldn't really want to load an instance of kontakt just for a loop, would much rather that be built right in, since that would mean you can stick to the hardware completely. As soon as you load kontakt or another plug-in, you can no longer use just the hardware. Actually in general I don't think I'll VSTs a whole lot inside it still. Some simple FX plug-ins for sure. But otherwise, the odd time for resampling a synth sound or something.delicioso wrote:Actually this is what they said the last time they talked about the timestretch feature which was back in June during the On The Record sessions:glitchrock-buddha wrote: We don't know that timestretching will be in the next update. I'm not sure what you mean. Why would that mean that you couldn't stick to the hardware completely? We don't know how the new plugin support is going to work entirely but from the screenshot it looks as though you get Pages of plugin parameter controls directly inside Maschine, at least for NI plugins.glitchrock-buddha wrote:I wouldn't really want to load an instance of kontakt just for a loop, would much rather that be built right in, since that would mean you can stick to the hardware completely. Re: Holy Sh*t - Maschine update 1.6 brings VST/AU hosting !
I'll have to wait and see how it's implemented, but you might have to switch the controller into MIDI mode for controlling plugins; what's showing in the screenshot looks like the MIDI template for Massive. It all depends on how the third party integration's implemented.delicioso wrote:I'm not sure what you mean. Why would that mean that you couldn't stick to the hardware completely? Not quite true. The VST spec allows for 32 bit FP resolution as far as automation goes:Machinesworking wrote:[Kore's automation is based on track automation, which is 512, so every modern plug in has that resolution.
