Send Midi to Audio Track

Post by charletan » Tue Nov 16, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi
I just purchased Arturias Moog Modular and like to use it on Audio Tracks. But for the FX to work I have to be able to send MIDI to an audio track which I don't know how to do. I could load the track in Simpler in a MIDI track but this isn't very flexible as I like to use the great audio features of Live (Wrap, Step, ...). So, is there any way to send MIDI to an Audio Track?

What are you trying to do with the effects that would require you to send MIDI to an audio track?

Actually the audio signal is only processed when you send a midi note to the plugin.
You can also transform the audio signal in many ways by sending midi data (e.g. pitch, filter, sequencer, ...).

As I understand it, you're looking to use this plug-in as an effect, coming after a piece of audio. The best way to do this would be to draw the envelope/automation for the parameters you want to control within the audio clip (or within the track line in Arrangement view). The only advantage of sending MIDI data over this is that you get notes, which you won't need if you're using it as an effect. If you need to have the envelopes on a longer loop/one-shot than the clip, then make the envelopes unlinked.

Thanks David, I'll try that out. But: your solution means I can't use my external MIDI controller to controll the FX plugin, am I right on this.
So there is no way to send external MIDI to an audio track in Live? Actually I never used such a feature in the past but it is needed when you want to modify audio data with a plugin which also supports MIDI in.
