I hope I am missing something obvious here, but I have been using 7 for the last 18 months and never had a single issue.
I bought 8 and updated to 8.2 and started using it this week, however, I am finding the warping a bit of a chore so went back to 7 last night to warp a load of tunes I had bought.
Did a mix and today went to do another one. However I loaded up 7 and noticed a few tracks had lost their warp markers etc.
So loaded up 8 and noticed most of the tunes I had warped in 7 also had lost their markers, so I booted back into 7 again but there were missing in that too!
I now have around 70% of the tracks with their settings lost. I had warped 458 tracks a couple of weeks ago after I lost my laptop and the back up was only for the tunes, not the asf file.
The thought of having to do them all again makes me want to quit ableton to be honest.
I have just tried warping a track in 7 again, but go into 8 and it has no markers.
The basics.
Using a Macbook Pro.
All files are in the one folder with 7 and 8 directed at them and asf files in there too.
Can I run 7 and 8 on the same system??

The warp markers are saved on the .asd file and created in the same folder as your original mp3 or wav file (the track you warped). When you back up or copy your tracks you should be careful to back the .asd files too. I think what you are missing is the .asd files. Please check the section Analysis Files (.asd) of your Ableton Live Manual.

No all the asd files are there.
Out of 1700 warped tracks I lost my last 400 tunes when my macbook died and I had not backed up.
I had copies of the downloaded files as I download them from beatport to my back up drive and then drag them into iTunes, so just recently I spent a fortnight re-warping the lost files andza the 50 odd new ones.
They are all in one folder which is /user/music/ableton/warped tracks*
*not actually a folder called warp tracks, I have various folders from 'progressive' to 'tech house' etc.
None of the files have been moved since then, this is a screenshot of the folder I am grabbing tracks from....
As you can see, most were only created last night. although they were created in live 7, 7.0.14 I think it is.
But going back to that and putting those track in and they are missing their warp markers, and not even got the 1.1.1 start point in the correct place.
I have deleted the preferences to do with 7, and I have deleted 7 now, so I will start warping again and see how I get on, just seriously, seriously annoying.
It's as if jumping between the two versions broke something.

Just been told on the ableton DJ forum that Live 8 re-analyses all the files, it is not backwards compatible with earlier versions so they all need to be re-warped.
I find that pretty crap, I have 1700 tunes warped that I want to keep using with ableton, which take an average of 3 minutes each to get spot on. If I spend 6 hours a day doing them it will take me just over a fortnight to get back to where I am now.
So that is me out, can't be arsed, just lost 400 and redid them all recently, took me every evening for 3 weeks, I am not doing all that again.

Forget all that, I think he worded it wrong.
I need to delete 7 completely and not go back into it. Let's just hope 8 is as stable.

I bought and paid for V8 months before it's release ... I'm still waiting for V8 to 'stabilize', but don't see any evidence of it. To me V8, for all it's wondrous new features, is still a long way from the stability I experience with V7 (absolutely rock solid) ...gizze wrote: Let's just hope 8 is as stable.
V7 is working great for me and I don't want to take the risk of migrating to V8 in case I get caught out with 'issues' that seem to affect pretty much every 'patch up' Version update. Seems like a new game of Russian roulette with every update. No Thanks. V7 rocks because it simply works.
