I'm realizing more and more that having delay plug-ins is just redundant and a waste of time. Not only that but usually a waste of cpu too. One exception is having a delay with a filter in the feedback path if you really want to have it as an insert. I still like OhmBoyz for that because it uses hardly any cpu and is also capable of lots of cool modulation stuff. But generally you have so much more freedom if you use a regular delay and add your own filter and compression yourself. It also lets you change the character of compression/limiting, add overdrive if you want etc. Using a return track as was shown in the covert ops video is the best way to go I think. Or as I said before, I like using kore because it lets me rout anything in it's own feedback path.

depends entirely on what kind of music you're making and what you use delays for. I'd be lost without EchoBoy.

Yeah, I love it cause it even makes "noise" on its own, tape-emulation that is.

EchoBoy, of course.

Another one I like for tape style delay that I don't think was mentioned is Augustus Loop.

On the hardware side, I use Moog's MF-104Z and Snazzy FX Wow and Flutter. Another stomp box that sounds killer is Strymon's El Capistan.

I kind of think it depends on what kind of tracks you're using the delay on.

'Rhythmic/Analog Tape Delay' works great for guitar, horns, and if you want to put an emphasis on some skank rhythms.
For drums I like to duplicate the drum track and run the second track with a reverb setting and set it's volume low in the mix. 'Outer Space' works great, but there are some other reverbs that create that nice snappy spring reverb which sounds like a very quick delay. I've found that actual delay settings are too much, and often clutter the beat during dub sections.

I also like the 'Moving 3' in the 'Filter Delay' folder too. It's nice to have an offset of this with the 'Analog Tape Delay' to create some killer delay textures.

I haven't really had a need to seek outside plug ins. Most of these delays can be tweaked enough to get desired results.

 Yeah, the plug makes up for the jarring skin. I think there are actually other skins available, but I've gotten used to the original over the years.

GSI Spring Reverb Type4 is a good one:

Yeah, I hear you. I followed the covops guide and re-created it. It worked actually quiet well. A tad muddy sounding perhaps, but I guess a bit of tweaking is all it needs.

Others: The Variety Of Sound stuff seemed really nice btw. And free! I downloaded everything and will try em very soon. :) Thanks for the other tips as well. The GSI Spring Reverb Type4 wasn't the one I was looking for, but it does look nice! Ill check it out too.

@ze2be: The only other two spring reverb plugins I know of are from Softube and Overloud.

@GR-B: I've tried the return track method to limited effect. I just can't seem to really capture what I hear with delays like Timeless or Dubstation. I'd like to create a delay that gets progressively more saturated as I increase the dealy time, like the regen knob in Dubstation, but can't seem to get it quite right. Any thoughts?
