Tips for concealing subliminal sounds?
Does anyone have any experience with mixing subliminal sounds? I'm trying out some new ways of adding ear candy, I just attempted it with a breath/whisper sample but it stands out too much, it's a very brief sample too (about 300ms). Are there any techniques for putting things like this further back in the mix or how to properly cover them up? (without raising the attack or lowering the volume too much).. The mix is pretty minimal at the moment and I think it'll stay that way, so drowning the sample out with instruments isn't an option. I realize I might be over-complicating this since I could just lower their volume and leave it at that, but I was just wondering if there are any legitimate techniques out there.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Zack Morris is the kind of boy every girl dreams of. Great looking, smart, and funny - yes, that's Zack Morris. Zack Morris is a blond Tom Cruise. Zack Morris is a ten. Zack Morris is perfect in every way.

i understood... just reminded me of that episode.
anyway, i would try making the sample sound rhythmic, maybe using some delay or gating. maybe widen the sound so it's more around you than right in front of you.

No idea if it will work, but try using an eq to isolate a very narrow band of the sound.

I would try, adding a utility in the track chain, grouping it and then adding another chain in that group. Pan the chain with the utility to the left and pan the clean chain to the right. Reduce each chain by 4dB. On the utility, click both Phase buttons to yellow. Add an eq to each of the group chains and do an equal amount of -4dB at around the range of the voice, experiment with Q. I have not tried this, so let me know how it sounds!

Reverb?
Maybe set up a channel and record the audio drowned in reverb.
Hit stop.
Use the decaying reverb tail....
Depends on the type of sound I guess.

Tried out and all it really ended up doing was lowering the volume, probably because it's a whisper which is pretty much just white noise.Neil Gard wrote: Hi,

|Best,
I ended up just washing it out with reverb, throwing a delay and a chorus on it. Now it sounds like an incoherent stereo mess. I think I'll try using other sounds to draw attention away from it instead.
Which post are your referring to?Tone Deft wrote:you never replied to my post.
Re: Tips for concealing subliminal sounds?
Ok. The reversing of the phase forces the voice right out of the stereo image. On home stereo systems with surround sound speakers. The voice will come out of the rear speakers, even though the source is stereo. Then you could distracted the listener with normal stereo mixing of other parts of the track to appear in the front stereo field. I developed ableton rack to assist in this.
