Re: Moog voyager to fireface800 help
Look on the front of your Fireface.. 4 preamps.. and a DI.

You need to go buy a recording 101 book before worrying about what a good DI or Pre for synths is...
Start from the basics. you're working backwards.

Re: Moog voyager to fireface800 help
the reason i ask is because the audio outs on synths are unbalanced, and there is only one hi-z input on the fireface, which uses some time of amp modeling i understand? btw i dont have either of these products, just trying to get advice.
Re: Moog voyager to fireface800 help
It's not really amp modelling it distorts in a nice analogue way and you can turn all the speaker sim and limiter off..
All the preamps on the front are balanced or unbalanced.. all the rear are balanced only, or maybe they all are both.. but the rear has no volume, which you need because analogue synths have some serious output

OK SO a hypothetical setup would inlude plugging a guitar into the xlr input, and two stynths into the 2 of the preamps on the front? i dont need any DI's for the synths necessarily?
Re: Moog voyager to fireface800 help
No you can't plug a guitar into an XLR! I think as said before you might want to look up some recording basics before you blow 1k on a ff800
all the preamps on the front take line or XLR.. all 4 of them.. then there is a DI input which takes guitar or W/E..

Line input 1 on the front is great for guitar.
I always ran my Voyager into line inputs on the back. Never had an issue with levels.

sorry i didnt mean xlr, i meant the hi-z input. man im sure i look hella noobish right now but whatever i need to learn somehow. ive never recorded audio before, just worked with vsti's and such.
so hi-z is for guitar inputs. xlr is mic cables. can someone explain the difference between balanced and unbalanced?

I just think it's better practice to have your synth on full then control the level of the in's on the front... Are the back ones unbalaned and balanced?polyslax wrote:Line input 1 on the front is great for guitar.

No I won't tell you the difference..
