Sugarbyte info
Generate public links
You can generate public links using My SugarSync on the web from any browser. If you're on a computer running the SugarSync desktop application, just right-click on any of your files in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder for even faster sharing. You can share any file type up to 2 GB in size.
Direct download for recipients
When recipients click on your public link, they get a direct download of the file. Recipients don't have to register and they aren't prompted to view any marketing pages. It couldn't be any easier! There is no limit to the number of downloads, making it great for sharing files with lots of people.

I really don't understand why there is so much hype regarding Dropbox as SugarSync has more features and really great prices. For me it's all SugarSync now and I'm not using my Dropbox anymoreS4racen wrote:Wow, sorry dropbox but our love affair is over, sugarsync has an incredible feature set and for me is perfect!S4racen wrote:That looks really cool, but do the other users have to pay to sign up for the service or is the cost borne purely by the folder owner? I'd be happy with that but not if other users i invite have to pay to access the content....Varming wrote:SugarSync is even more cool than Dropbox, check it out..

Just a suggestion but rather than pay for a service, why not pay for better bandwidth at home?
Windows or Mac, - you can share files directly from your machine to people you collaborate with. Why put something on dropbox for someone else to download when you can just have them download it directly from your computer?
You could say that it would take too long to download a gig on your home connection, but it will take forever for you to upload that much data too. If you compare the time it will take for you to upload it all, then someone else to download it all, i think its a very similar amount of time to just have them download it all directly from your machine.
I just put stuff directly on a web server I run at home and send people links. Never really had a need for a dropbox.

A good way to collaborate on a set (as long as one of you do not have a newer version of Live than the other) is to use Dropbox, it is a free online file sync application which is cross platform, Windows, OS X, Linux & even iPhone / Android. It's totally integrated with your operating system and just shows up as a folder (the contents of which, are uploaded online and synced with any other computer you may have Dropbox installed on). You can set up a shared folder with anyone you wish to collaborate with and put the Live Project in that folder (just remember to collect all and save). It takes all the hassle out of sending files back and forth and it is uber simple to use
You get a totally free 2GB of space and if you sign up via this link you (and I) will get an additional 250mb added to our free space (up to a huge max of 10GB) everyone wins...
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTM2NjIwNjI5
To say it's useful is an understatement. Oh and I forgot to mention that as soon as you sign up you just follow 5 simple tutorial steps that are on the site and that nets you an additional 250mb too...so using my link and doing the 5 steps which takes about 5 min gives you an instant 2.5GB of space
Excuse the copy paste nature of this message, short on time as i'm at work, just thought i'd give you the opportunity to get some additional space.
Thanks!
Re: No Ableton Share - Where to buy hosting space? Experiences?
I signed in to sugarsync just to learn that if I share a folder with someone they need to sign in to sugarsync also (?!?!?!) ... can this be true? It makes me look very un-pro among clients if the site is demanding a log in and email snatching before files can be downloaded ...dbfs wrote:Yup, been using Sugarsync for awhile now... It's awesome! Really?
Re: No Ableton Share - Where to buy hosting space? Experiences?
Our band's been using our own web server with the widely-available, Unison utility. It runs on our Macs and the LINUX-based web server, and it uses two-way rsync synchronizations to keep the server copy up to date. The reason we use it is that it's smart enough to only transfer the files that have changed.
So, right after saving a Live set, we simply run Unison and walk away.
It's free and automatically installed on most UNIX-based machines.

+1 I don't use Unison but I use rync in the same way.dchang0 wrote:Our band's been using our own web server with the widely-available, Unison utility. I was hesitant to install a client for dropbox, but it did indeed make things simple. Much nicer than yousendit and the other ftp-type widgets.S4racen wrote:Wow, sorry dropbox but our love affair is over, sugarsync has an incredible feature set and for me is perfect!S4racen wrote:That looks really cool, but do the other users have to pay to sign up for the service or is the cost borne purely by the folder owner? Sugarsync sounds great on the page. 5GB is a nice enticement. It seems new so I'll have to watch for a while and see if people complain about it.
Live 9.1 <> occasionally Reason 4.0.1 <> Reaper.latest! <> Windows 7 on a bespoke Intel Q6600 <> ASUS P5E <> 8GB RAM, M-Audio Delta 2496 and that's it.
Re: No Ableton Share - Where to buy hosting space? Experiences?
Only problem i've had so far is with one member who already had installed sugarsync before being invited to share the folder, had to unlink and relink computer and all was sorted...
