Worship Lyric display support

Post by randallp » Sun Aug 22, 2010 12:55 am

Actually, with the increasing use of loops in worship it would be cool to have two overhead displays - one for the people, one over their heads for the band.

Currently we have some poor soul clicking his way through presentation software on a projector. It would be neat to do it all at once. I've heard DP synchs to that sort of program - how about Live?

i have given up hoping for a lyric display in LIVE as people dont understand that LIVE could be used other than DJ mixing and producing. Even if they would it wasnt sure if it ever was implemented . Displaying lyrics is associated with cheap easy listening music, cos a song for itself is seen as out-fashioned these days..

They can not imagine that there is a wider musical bandwidth within just one person that can handle both modern beats and song oriented music at the same time.
I even would use it for all of these tasks, but this is something people dont understand less than ever.
This is why i gave up LIVE and use another app that is less capable of handling loops, but it plays midifiles (with embedded lyrics),audiofiles as wav or mp3, while it can show up jpg, PDF RTF, text at the same time, even it can be programmed to turn the pages automaticly or just a footswitch if its a jpg or PDF.
Also it can handle up to 5 Displays, while every one of them can handle different content ...
its a German app but can be installed in an English version.

it is from a small company - just one single guy programming this!
- the sw is called PC Live Player 4 -
i dunno if there is enough english manual support though.
but u can try the demo and drop me a line if you have a question.
http://www.midiland.de/software/pclp4_demo.zip

the demo will not save song lists .
note that if the song is an audio file and has the same name as the midi file in the same folder, it will play both.

i think the software does recognize your OS language and will install regarding this.
this is why i dont know why there is an extra registry tweak to change the menu and the window messages from one language to another, but there is:
http://www.midiland.de/software/pclivep ... glisch.zip

tell me what u think..

OK, I can drop jpegs of the lyrics into a track in the arrange view and move them about so they display (on a second display) right in time with the verses and choruses. :)

This actually goes a long way to meeting my need of displaying words for the band and congregation in a church.

One question though, how can I drop them into a track in the session view? (I'm guessing I can't?)

Do I produce the track in arrange then produce a clip or something?

????? randallp, where are you at??? 8O
i said, this software mentioned above can do all this, but now your´re talking of tracks, arrange view and session view, which are terms of Ableton LIVE ! So i don´t get you right...

i know of a band using Sonar Producer live to display lyrics, but these lyrics are all midi embedded lyrics.
i don´t think that it´s capable of displaying jpegs , txt, rtf or PDF like the PC Live Player 4.

did you download the demo?

i´m not sure what you wanna do, but whether you want to perform a midi/audio playback or only picture based lyrics without playback, PC Live Player 4 will display all lyrics on different monitors where you can program the moment to turn pages automatically or you can manually turn pages with a midi foot switch. (midi learn function on almost every action)
If the lyrics are embedded within a midi file, the lyrics will display in real time highlighting each syllable in the beat, (or just the current line) while the midi instruments themselves can be muted to let the audio music play instead.
the band can then complement this, and each monitor can display different content.

PS: assuming that you only want to display pictures while a band is playing, why don´t you just use Microsoft PowerPoint?

Why do people want live to be something it isnt?
Really? "Live" is designed and optimized for LIVE performance, is it not? I suspect you are not a singer, or you would feel differently. Most live performers carry around 3-ring binders filled with lyrics and chords. Next time you're at a bar or restaurant with live music, notice what the performer has laying at his feet or on a stand nearby ( or, maybe you're not of age, yet? )
protip: rehearsal.

rehersal.

?
rehearsals are time consuming and mostly not paid .

its like, a software can play audio, but cannot start in real time.
so you must rehearse to start 11 ms earlier to fit to the beat in time

Sadly rehearsing a whole church isn't an option - they need to read the words each time.
Specialist need of course.

Raz - I downloaded it and got it working but am still trying to get Live to do what I want. I was able to drop jpegs of the words into a track and they "play back" in another window. Almost there! I just want to know how I can get a track (from the arrange window) into the session view - then it'll play in synch with the other stems and voila - a great solution (for church congreagations anyway!)

try this
http://www.proxl.nl/p/vstnotes.html
its a vst note pad, but you can automatize it in session view to change page whenever you want. Thjis is the fre version & is of fixed window size but for €12.50 you can get the pro version where you can ajust the size to what you want.

Bupper, that looks interesting.
Can you help me here - I downloaded it and get a vstnotes.dll file - what do I do with it? (I've never knowingly used a VST plugin before (apart from what comes with Logic or Live)

If you go to option/prferences/File Folder then plug-in sources you will see if it proposes a vst folder to you (i.e. program files/Steinberg/Vstplugins). If you don't have that then you have to create a VST folder somewhere on your hard drive & paste the vstnotes.dll in it then go into ableton - option/prferences/File Folder then plug-in sources & direct it to your vst folder & it will show up in ableton
