Using mbox 2 with ableton
Using mbox 2 with ableton
Hey guys. First time poster. I was just wondering if I could use my mbox 2 with ableton without having to keep pro tools installed on my cpu or having to install it at all. I understand that it is optimized for PT, so I'm going to try and sell it for another usb interface, but I was hoping I could use it in the meantime. Thanks.

You can use it - it might not perform quite as well with Live as with PT but you should be able to do something with it.

Yea, you can definitely use it w/o having PT installed.

Re: Using mbox 2 with ableton
i actually have been having a problem using the mbox 2 with ableton. whenever i try and install the standalone driver (i don't use pro tools) i get the bouncing folder midi.core error and i can't use any midi devices. When i just try to plug and play it says i have a corrupt audio driver and it crashes ableton when i try and select the mbox in the audio preferences.
anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Re: Using mbox 2 with ableton
So I wouldn't even need the Pro Tools software to install the mbox? Ableton will just recognize it anyway? That seems a little strange, but that would be cool. Real noob question, but how would I get Ableton to recognize my mbox once it's hooked up?
Re: Using mbox 2 with ableton
So I downloaded the 8.3 standalone drivers and I still get Failed to open the audio device "ASIO DIGIDESIGN DRIVER." Any suggestions?
Re: Using mbox 2 with ableton
bump. Anyone know what drivers I need to install to get ableton to recognize it? I've tried a few.

Re: Using mbox 2 with ableton
If you are on Tiger/Leopard use the 7.4 Standalone Core Audio Driver.
If you are on Snow Leopard use the 8.0.3 Standalone Core Audio Driver. HOWEVER there are serious problems with the standalone and DIGI is working on a fix. Best to install Pro Tools and slect the driver in Ableton.
If you are on Windows, for whatever reason, use the Standalone ASIO Driver.
PS. The Mbox2 works great with Ableton.
EDIT: One more thing, if you are on a Mac do NOT unplug the Mbox2 without shutting the computer off. It will lead to a kernal panic.

I use windows 7. I've tried using the standalone drivers, but none have worked. 8.0.3, 7.4, still get the same error.jasonjbundy wrote:If you are on Tiger/Leopard use the 7.4 Standalone Core Audio Driver.

Digi makes a mess of Windows too.

win 7 + mbox2 + live + asio4all = success!
I had problems but asio4all solved those for me
