Disk overload

Post by Chris J » Sat May 21, 2005 7:12 pm

live 4.1.2
I'm working on this project that has about 15 stereo 24 bit 44Khz tracks and 6 mono 24bit 44Khz, Not all are playing at the same time.

Runs fine, but after a while (haven't found a pattern yet, sometimes after just a few minutes) suddenly the audio drops out, the red D blinks. I quit Live and re-launch and it's fine again.
My HD is defragmented. (CPU 23 max hen it happens)
ideas ?

it seems to happen after I've copied pasted and repeated small chunks out of long tracks of audio. Once I restart Live it's not stumbling on them anymore

it keeps happening, and it's as soon as I paste something.

really ? woaw !

you mean you suffer from the same symptoms, did you find something that creates it particularly ? I've worked on a few projects but it's the first time it happens so regularly.

And what's ableton's position on this ?

dpel,
have you found why it's happening, and does it happen all the time?
On this project I just can't do any copying pasting without having to quit & restart the bloody program each time.
really getting on my nerves !

Have the same problems. So to be on safe side use RAM for all smaller clips

not really, it's so random. i mostly notice it on editing and moving track audio around
i'm using 4.1.2.
it happened just now as i moved a gtr track with some edits
from one track with no plugs to a track with one VST gtr amp emulator plug.
the red d lights up and i get drop outs in audio.
it's a song with 27 tracks but only 12 are on. reasonable amount of plugs (mostly ableton) 2 returns (verb and delay)
even when i set everything to RAM, 1024 buffer, disable all unsed I/O
etc etc.

good luck

yes your symptoms are very similar. For me right now it happens pasting on the very same track.

so you quit and restart and it's ok again ?

Did you send a self contained song to ableton, or get feedback from them ?

right, pasting within the same track. very bizzare.
if i close and then re-open helps sometimes as well.

no substantial feedback from them. i did not send a self contained to them.
my songs are quite large.

I'm new to this forum, but am having a similar problem.

I have 6-7 sessions that I've created in Live. Only one of them is giving me this problem. It happens to be one that has 4 - 5 minute stereo tracks in it. I have copies of those clips and some of the copies are looping just a small section of the 5 minute total.

I'm wondering if this is what is putting strain on the hard drive?

Any thoughts? Any chance Ableton will weigh in on this?

Tim.

Well that's what I thought at first but when I quit and restart it's fine (it's just I have to do it every 2 minutes, ie once I edit or record something).

ndp, is it OK once you quit and restart ?

dpel : So sometimes restarting don't help then ?
I'm going to put a self contained song on ftp for ableton because this is unacceptable.
They probably don't get sent big songs, so if there's a bug in large songs (which there is obviously) they must have never looked into it.

Well, not to sound trite, but I don't understand what good it would be to have to restart. Afterall, I'm using this LIVE - I can't be restarting my computer.

I'm going to try to carve my mini-loops into their own seperate WAV's instead of setting a tight loop on a 5 minute WAV and see what happens.

I'll post back here later...
