Total noob Any advice, pointers etc?

Post by Gaetano CAPUANO » Mon Nov 29, 2010 2:57 pm

I just got Ableton Lite8 over the weekend, I am looking to learn the ins and outs of this program to see if it is right for me. I am already feeling the limitations of LITE, mainly the minimal FX, instruments, and 4 scenes. ANyways, any one have any good pointers, tips or advice? Possibly a good spot to score some free VST's or something?

I am a guitarist/bassist and am looking to use live as the rest of my band. Also wanting to do some live looping/improvisational/spontaneous type stuff. I am still learning exactly what this program can do.

Thanks in advance.

For free synths and some effects check out togu audio line.
Native instruments free players are good. You get guitar rig player with a basic marshall amp.
If you want drums check out toontrack. They have some reasonably priced kits and their midi grooves are good just drag and drop.
Go to KVR and search their plug in data base for free plugs only too.

Am I missing something? I am downloading these plug in files From TAL, but when I open Live they are not showing up in my plug in library?

The Sonic Academy videos are pretty good. I used the one month free that came with my live 8 upgrade and they helped a lot. Very slow, clear, step by step presentation. My only gripes are that they are expensive and most of them are done in Live 6 (which isnt very helpful when it comes to the dj'ing/warping tutorials.)
