Exactly, Adam!

And it's not that i dislike Sasha, it's just that i'd prefer to hear the death rattle of my only child.

hahaha, well in the case of Sasha. i dislike him, and i won't pretend not to.
But i can't hate on Vegimite! (i would lose too many potential record sales and/or gigs in the south-east quadrant of the globe). I just wish they'd use something with a little more flavor. One would think the inclusion of a proper lubricant such as brake fluid would make it easier to spread on bread that isn't toasted.

i was discussing this yesterday. in '96 or '97 he was friends with/dating/whatever an old gf of mine in san francisco. i met him back then, we all had lunch, yadda yadda. decent chap [insert brit accent]. finally got around to seeing him play in SF in 1998, him and digweed @ 1015. to be honest, it was quite good. or - not good in the way i would normally call a dj good or not, but it was fun. sometimes that's all it takes. wasn't my main taste but the music didn't suck either. chunky tribally house, verging on tech-house. i guess this was before all the global underground hoopla began. there was none of that epic proggy garbage he now plays.

and that's the point... b/c of that experience i've checked in on him occasinally over the years and i've concluded that night in SF was a total anomaly. i don't care how he plays it -- it's the CRAP he plays now that's my issue with him.

the ableton thing is secondary. good for ableton and therefore us by extension, but anyone with an ounce of sense knows he's doing his best to McDonaldsify his career.

don't know the first thing about Vegimite ;0

funny, he doesnt play at all epic .. or particulary progressive at all these days.

this is why see most of the hatred on this forum as either

1 - ill informed

2 - jealous/envious

3 - predjudiced

4 - elitist

5 - groupthink/fear

because most of the regulars that post the hate have no clue what he does :)

and or, they summarily judge based on a brief isolated example which they listen to DETERMINED not to like based on thier own preconcieved notions and desire to be justified in thier opinions.

actually drush your post is one of the only ones ive seen that is fairly balanced and reasonable .. up until you posted the word CRAP after describing music that he doent actually play ;)

i think this is all sad really

awhile back there were some political threads and stuff worth discussing and people where complaining..."take ur politics elswhere" they said

and now i am complaining and saying

"take ur Sasha bashing or what ever elsewhere"

make a sasha bashing forum or what ever

dont get me wrong, i dont like trance and i dont like the commerce surrounding it(same goes for Tiesto )

but the analysing off his set up off live and comparing it to some elses and bla bla bla

he does what he does and he is succesfull and ur prolly not

"live" with it

no, that word does apply to things i have heard him play on several occasions lately. 2 different radio shows and in person behind the fabled iMac here in LA (...i got in free).

so whatever, it's just semantics. i don't like what he plays or what it ought to be called. i don't care how he plays it. i don't have some personal vendetta against him; my tastes are different than his. simple enough.

on a much smaller level richie hawtin (for example) gets the same kind of crap from some people for promoting his technological feats. such is the name of the game. but in general he only does this on his own website; he's turned down more sponsorships and signature whatevers than you can imagine. however i think it's fair to say that hawtin's overall presentation and ethic behind what he does can be called genuine, authentic. i'd have a really hard time saying the same of sasha.

Regardless of what anyone says about anything here if your making some money using Ableton then your doing very well. I could care less about Sasha but he's doing what I want to do with my life. Play music/produce/DJ electronic music and live decently doing it. :)

Hmm, life ambitions. Surely you mean - travel about the globe in first class, screw nice looking girls, take good drugs in fabulous locations ?

I hate him because 90% of all threads somehow turn into a Sasha thread.

For christs sake, he's like big brother - always there, always watching....

That I can not tolerate.

Folks,
all these Sasha & R. Hawtin threads are getting a bit annoying.
If someone unknown posts a track here, he usually gets a warm welcome,
and if there is only one nice sound in it, it gets mentioned.

So, what is the point in bashing people you have never spoken to, have never met personally ? It is not about the music, I am not talking about the way you guys discuss the music you dislike, it is about the way you talk about actual persons. You are not arguing if a sound in record X from Sasha or Richie is a bit cheasy, you are takling about the persons. Imagine if this discussion would be about YOU.

Sorry, this is not accepteable anymore. I would suggest you spend your time either with making music or with discussing threads which are really an issue.

Robert

Robert,
as I assume you have access to the control panel for this bulletin board .. could I suggest you use the 'swearing filter' to make the word 'sasha' appear as the phrase 'a musician / DJ'

really - please consider it. It would take a couple of minutes and eliminate this stuff forever. Its very hard to be offensive with phrases like
" I think a musician / DJ is the best DJ ever!" , or
"god damn , I hate a musician / DJ , he sucks"

PHPbb word replacement is childish but amusing

another programming forum that I am on uses this technique to replace the word 'vacation', Newbs are often wondering why phrases like "I am going on a chicken to florida" are so common
