Monolake supports alien life!

Okay, so it's alien in the sense that it is arsenic based,
and it's actually Mono Lake, as a location, not our dear Henke.

Although, I am sure Mr Henke supports aliens of all kinds, since they invented dub and all :)

My work has that site blocked but I did read something about NASA expected to make some announcement about arsenic based life forms in space. I don't see what the big deal is. If they do find something it's going to be microscopic and take about 18 million years to evolve into something about the size of a pea with 4 little nubs. Raise your hand if you're expecting to stick around to see that happen.

It's a hugely significant finding if the basis for this organic life form (no matter how small) is uniquely different from our own. It means that we have been fortunate enough not only to be able the results of one miracle (our current biosphere) but a SECOND genesis of life. This would change the proportion of life expected to be found in the universe drastically!

And this fixes the economy how?

And this fixes the economy how?

1. NASA holds press confrence to say cool stuff
2. People are reminded about cool stuff in space
3. Government gives more money to space so people are satisfied that cool space stuff continues happening
4. More cool stuff happens in space
5. People live in floating machine cities in space
6. Cool floating cities avoid giant meteor by moving out of the way
7. Earth can't make such a maneuver
8. People in cool machine cities are happy to still exist
9. Floating cities multiply like rabits
10. People are cool
11. Space is cool

SHOW US THE MARTIAN WE KNOW YOU'VE GOT IT!!1
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

No one needs arsenic based life forms, no one. That's unthinkable, arsenic based life is a really exotic life form. I can't see that something is being it.

i believe there's a bigger chance of finding life in space than fixing the economy. life in space depends on the desire to be. the economy depends on the desire to agree... something that humans are running low on. now, if we can find a way to extract agreeable nature from the new found life form, then the economy could be on the mend, but don't count your amoebas just yet. since single celled lifeforms still have more scruples than your average politician it could be a slow transition phase.

don't worry beats. the economy will fix itself after it implodes... you should start learning Mandarin now though...

Actually I saw something the other day (although reported in 2008) that Japan owns more of our debt than China. So we need to start practicing having frequent but pixilated sex in front of a live and politely appreciative audience.

why do you guys care about the economy anyways? it isn't something that prevents us from going extinct!
nature and music are way cooler :P

and, according to the follow up, it is not a novel, non-carbon based life form of different evolutionary origins. :(
But, the feat of being able to swap the otherwise toxic arsenic with the ever-present phosphorous molecule is pretty impressive. DNA and ATP are largely phosphorous; the backbone and energy source of C-based life.

so, i guess the question remains whether henke is a superbeing from space that is immune to arsenic poisoning...

^ i can't help it. the sheer volume of new credit card offers in my mail lets me know that they're fishing and that something is amiss/expected. my credit is fine sure, but i haven't used it so much in the last year that an entire pine tree had to be sacrificed just for me and my mail box. "variable interest rates"... uh, huh. variable being the keyword.

any way, fuk em! this thread is about the alien life interest rate in The Lounge.
