Using CME M-Key with Ableton

Post by DieselDeal » Thu Dec 02, 2010 7:12 pm

Help!

I have purchased a small MIDI hardware, the CME M-Key (44 key), and I am having trouble getting it to work in the program. I've tried to research it, and I can't find any instructions as to how to set it up. I've just found people that say they've used it with Ableton.

I have it connected via a MIDI output to USB plug to my laptop, where I am running Windows XP. I have a bit of experience in the program, but I've never had to set up the hardware, aside from unplugging a USB here or there.

I do know, however, that the MIDI devices are mostly controlled through the MIDI/SYNC tab in the preferences menu. I know that my device is powered on and connected (Windows has established a connection), but in the MIDI/SYNC, I have no options for an "Input," just "Output." This does not seem right.

What am I doing wrong? How can I get it to work? Is there something stupidly obvious I've been missing?

Please help!

Diesel

Hi Diesel, to clarify, when you look at Preferences->MIDI in Live, you have no options for input from the M-Key? Would you post a screenshot of your Preferences->MIDI panel?

Sure. Here's the screenshot of what I'm working with.

Try setting the first control surface back to "none" - part of the issue may be that Live is looking for an Axiom keyboard, which you don't have.

It still doesn't recognize it. I went through a lot of different control surfaces thinking it would pick up one of them that would be compatible with the M-Key. Didn't work.

Diesel, is your computer recognizing the controller, outside of Live?

Yes, it's definitely being recognized by the computer. Do you think it could be a driver issue?

Possibly. At this point, I would recommend you get in touch with CME technical support, and also with Ableton technical support: http://www.ableton.com/support
