How many screens on your machine?

Post by Angstrom » Sat Dec 04, 2010 1:27 am

How many screens are connected to your main music making machine?

Are there many people still working on one screen?
Is there anyone with 4 or more?

Just one here. did multiple monitors for years, I definitely prefer having only one though, much more focused and comfortable for me.

I actually prefer one monitor with Live too (as it is). If they get it so you could put session on one screen and arrangement on the second then I would like dual monitors.

However, I love Cubase on dual screens with arrangement on one monitor and mixer/plugins on the second.

I have two. I have Live open on one, and my plug ins open on the other.

On 2 here - 1920x1200 and an old 1280x1024, but tempted to change to 3 screens as my graphics card (Radeon with 3 ports) supports it. Would definately go 3 screen if live could show session view and arrange view at the same time so I could see plugins on the 3rd.
Nothing to see here - move along!

I've got two monitors myself. On the first one I have live in full screen, and on the second I usually have Ni's Kontakt (in 16 channel mode), Uad and Powercore meters and sometimes Reason. Works quite nicely although it would be even better if Live's devices could be detached (for example spectral analyzer)

One 15" screen on my Laptop. Love it.

However I have a desktop I use for work, with two 24" monitors. I remember deciding to get two instead of one 30." At the new place I work lot's of guys decided to get one 30". After seeing them all the time I really wish I would have gone that route.

I think I'm regressing in terms of screen real estate. More and more lately I've been seriously considering not even using an external monitor (currently have a 21") and just using my laptop by itself. Would reduce a lot of clutter on my desk (ok, some clutter anyway) and more and more I enjoy using the MBP by itself in terms of trackpad and keyboard. With the new inertial scrolling in the latest MBP's, it not a big deal to easily "flick" your way around larger projects.

Just using a single 22" TFT. Got it pretty cheap.
If Ableton adds multiscreen support to Live, I might consider working on two screens. Until that, you are better off with a single big screen imo.

Two when working on my desktop computer. I got more use of the second one back when I was still using Reason extensively,
though. Nowadays, I just use it to dump all open VST's on.

I also use my second screen as a dumping ground for secondary windows. Toolboxes, VSTs, code windows, etc.

I can't imagine creating songs with just one screen these days , I prefer being able to glance between my main interface and my secondary ones, rather than having to hit a selection of toggle keys to see 'em.

2 mirrored. I have 2 work spaces.

Im fine using one large screen, but I still wish Lives sections could be floating. Sonar X1 is a perfect example: Put anything anywhere, and it auto aligns too.

edit: and I forgot to mention; there is 9 buttons to switch between different layouts.
