CPU usage issues :( :( :(
Ok. So I've gone through the search engine here and have come to the conclusion that bouncing down to audio is just a reality to save cpu. But when I first purchased ableton, I was under the impression that it was supposed to let you do things quickly, 'on the fly' without all these unecessary steps such as bouncing to audio. What could be more destructive to the creative process than your tune coming to a glitching halt and having to convert midi to audio? That's not very 'live' at all. I know ableton works good with audio clips and loops, but why the 'one interface' claims. Why not just advertise as an audio loop program? I'm going to try and optimize my computer out, but if cpu use doesn't improve I'm going to move on to logic, because right now ableton is just not doing it for me. It is destroying my creative process. I just heard such good things about ableton, but it only seems to be good with audio loops. I'm just venting and frustrated right now, and realize that this problem isn't entirely ableton specific, but I need tools that work, and it is so frustrating to have your creative process destroyed because of gear limitations.

i'm assuming you're on mac because of you mentioning logic... so have you optimized your processer performance in system preferences/energy saver?
that will make a big difference.
also...
try loading clips into RAM,
try not to use too many reverbs or vsti's.
i'm using a G3 i-book and still can get 16-20 tracks of audio running with a reverb, various eq4s, compressors, delays, bit crushers etc.... without glitches.
good luck.
