^ yes. there is.

example:

someone could type "i don't like gay people". - this would be an opinion. vanilla. plain.

or someone could say "i don't like fuckin fags". - yes, this too is an opinion, the same opinion, but the delivery is harsh.

Voilà!

you can feign ignorance to this simple flies with vinegar vs. flies with honey example as dum always did right before changing the subject or hyper focusing on something typed to the left or right, but... the difference is there and if you can't see it or refuse to see it... well, i blame your momma.

No, I get what you are saying my fair weather friend. But the harsher response is always more real and entertaining. That's not an opinion. Thats a motherfucking fact. FACTFACTFACTFACT. :x

Hmm. What next?

I the only person that I ever wanted banned was cpreeezzz.

I'm typing this on my iPad right now.

In 30min I'll be eating some amazing Italian food.

I love my AppleTV.

I'm free associating. Sort of...

This is where I go south of you, and always have. You don't like me? don't sugar coat it, and passive aggressively dog on me, just say it.
You actually think there's a difference in real world hate level between the two? because there isn't, it's just simple and plain upbringing.
There are hundreds of real world examples of "civilized" people doing incredibly hateful things with absolutely proper mannerisms and a smile at their enemies.
People have to get over this concept that there's a nice way to say fuck you, or call someone a cunt. There isn't and acting in good behavior with bad intentions isn't any substitute of merit for honesty. The third choice simply doesn't exist, we aren't all going to agree on everything, period.

 wow! i'm sorry, i thought i was directly responding to Loopstationzebra's comment.

dude its an example. i typed gay  WTF? its a perfect example of the fine line between between stating your opinion and being fucking rude and insensitive. dum doesn't get it, loops is questioning it and you're on your high and mighty all the god damn time about some group of people or another in some other location, but never with someone saying it to a specific person in plain sight on the forum.

here let me adjust it for your sensitivity:

better?

you're like this dude that'll chew out someone for talking about something (even if they aren't being hateful) but just fucking stand there and watch someone else get their ass kicked for being different. thats weak.

oh and by the way... LSZ made a comment earlier in the thread about dum getting kicked off for over use of the word....

fag.

where were your posts of protest all the times that he did?

You completely missed my point. I'm not talking about me at all, I'm talking about your post about civility.
Doesn't matter to me one bit if you're polite about your opinion, if your opinion is ugly and hateful.
You're going off on some personal ad homonym attack for god knows what reason? but the original post I made in response to your post about civility is clear.
You try to feed me flies, I don't give a shit whether it's with honey or vinegar, both are great on food, the flies are the problem period.

Now as a public forum for a product, I get that Ableton would prefer civility, and to a degree I get why you do too. Personally I don't go for direct ad homonym attacks (for humor maybe that's about it) because I don't know you IRL, in here it's all about your ideas, and those are up for debate.

Just added to the code of behavior:

If you can't say something nice then say it with a Mac vs. PC analogy.

yeah I know you had some kind of weird admiration for him, but this is hilarious. "Can't fight back" was exactly the MO Dum played on - guarded his anonymity ferociously so no-one knew anything about him, then got totally personal on people who actually gave themselves some legitimacy by actually showing who they were, links to their music etc etc…. He used to talk big from total safety knowing no-one could ever get personal on him or criticise anything about him in reality. To me that is just plain cowardice and you outwardly showing respect for him and sticking up for him lowered you in my estimations actually. He was like a 12 year old kid gloating that he learned how to use the internet.

To me the guy was almost single handedly responsible for turning this forum into a moronic glorified 4chan and a lot of people tried to respect him simply because we had to tolerate him. The proof is in the pudding, it's already a far better place.

Oh and BTW - Davids exact words on Dum were "yes he's gone, but for good this time"

So unless he's good with proxies that's the last of him. And the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the forum is overwhelming!

I know who dum is and trust me it doesn't even matter, I remember him chewing me out one time and I asked him instead of vitriol why don't you tell me exactly what you don't like about what I said/ opinion and that pussy told me that he wouldn't do so because he didn't want to give me any amunition to hit him with, what a freak.

and dum since I know you're watching i dedicate this to you

I seriously don't hate anybody on the internet, total waste of time.
The one thing dum and I had in common was politics, not his goofy bashing of the USA, but his dislike of aggressors.
He is/was remarkably consistent about that, unlike most people who's opinions change with the media at large.
The Iraq war is/was a great example of this on these forums, plenty of people were all for preemptive strikes until a couple years passed and it was obvious the US government hadn't a clue as to what they were doing in Iraq and had pretty much lied to the public about it. Thing is nobody was consistently against it here except dum and me, that is, and will be the one thing me and dum had in common. You'll notice for the most part I'm civil and if some idiot just replies back to something I said with an insult I don't even bother responding, in that sense we're vastly different. Dum would lay it on.

Personally, I get more annoyed by people deciding to dog on other members in some sort of Lord Of the Flies way, and you're pretty guilty of it from time to time. If one person is annoying ignore them, but you couldn't, and IMO you're constant remarks about what a vile person dum was were just as annoying as dum posting poop pics in a thread he was sick of. Seriosly, it's been a couple days and you're all "the forumz is so much betters!"? More like you're happy some person you don't even know who you exchanged insults with on the internet is gone. Plus, what kind of bubble (word for the day) do you live in where everyone has to fit into certain types of behavior? All of you need a huge dose of cultural relativism.

LSZ is dead on, he IMO added flavor, in fact some of the funniest stuff in the Lounge was those two going at it. In that sense he'll be missed. His temper tantrums, maybe not so much, but I don't need you all perfect, just don't bore me. :P
