Crashing all the time!

Hi guys,

Over the past few days my computer has been crashing when running ableton a lot. I've sent the crash reports to ableton. could it be the drivers for my sound card? I've just switched to using my Mbox as the soundcard for now but now the sound keeps cutting out every now and then.

any ideas how to fix this one?

When debugging crashes, always start with what you last changed and work backwards. So in this case you may have already answered your question when you say you've switched soundcards and the obvious 1st thing to try would be revert to your old configuration (if possible) and see if the stability problems go away.

IMHO, it's best to try one thing at a time though... make sure it's the sound card that's destabilized your setup before going out and grabbing a bunch of updates and applying them willy-nilly. Especially in the Windows world, you can often end up updating more than you intended, thereby introducing more variables into an already suspect configuration.

Thanks for the response, I switched to my mbox today because over the past few days my M-audio has been crashing. So I updated the drivers for the M Audio and it still keeps on crashing. Live is more stable with the M-box. I might just rewire it into protools for a while till M-Audio sort out new drivers or I might buy a an echo dj card when I start Djing in the real world again.

Ouch. Sorry to hear your troubles persist but I thought I'd at least give it a shot Best of luck to you in your bug tracking. One other thing you might do is have a look at your system and application event logs. If you've got some newly-failing hardware or driver updates, they might stand out as a flurry of recent messages all clustered together in the log.
