do you think we are really trying to get 3phase banned?

come on, you're not that daft.
Face it, you wouldn't be upset if your "funny" got 3phase banned.
Had people chosen pitch black for instance, then your point would have a point, teasing the odd duck isn't my kind of funny. [shrug]

I seriously don't hate anybody on the internet, total waste of time.
The one thing dum and I had in common was politics, not his goofy bashing of the USA, but his dislike of aggressors.
He is/was remarkably consistent about that, unlike most people who's opinions change with the media at large.
well actually for the most part I often found he *ostensibly* had a lot of the same views on politics to me too… but you talk about his "dislike of aggressors" and I see it as a load of hot air really. He IS by definition an aggressor. You can't rant on and on about justice and then be a total prick to anyone you communicate with, actually singling people out and using their actual real life persona against them from behind his cosy little anonymous login.

He's not the real deal man, he talks a lot and talks big, but when it boils down to it we was too scared to actually be up front and honest about who he was, for all those years he was here, while at the same time abusing that anonymity and getting personal with other people who were up front. To me that renders his so called political views utterly meaningless.

You can't talk peace when you start wars at every available opportunity. Especially not when you're such a total coward.

Anyway, whatever. I just found it funny that you called Leeds out on the fact that Dum could no longer defend himself and you seemed to completely miss the amazing irony of that.

The Iraq war is/was a great example of this on these forums, plenty of people were all for preemptive strikes until a couple years passed and it was obvious the US government hadn't a clue as to what they were doing in Iraq and had pretty much lied to the public about it. Thing is nobody was consistently against it here except dum and me, that is, and will be the one thing me and dum had in common. You'll notice for the most part I'm civil and if some idiot just replies back to something I said with an insult I don't even bother responding, in that sense we're vastly different. Dum would lay it on.

Personally, I get more annoyed by people deciding to dog on other members in some sort of Lord Of the Flies way, and you're pretty guilty of it from time to time. If one person is annoying ignore them, but you couldn't, and IMO you're constant remarks about what a vile person dum was were just as annoying as dum posting poop pics in a thread he was sick of. Seriosly, it's been a couple days and you're all "the forumz is so much betters!"? More like you're happy some person you don't even know who you exchanged insults with on the internet is gone. Plus, what kind of bubble (word for the day) do you live in where everyone has to fit into certain types of behavior? All of you need a huge dose of cultural relativism.

LSZ is dead on, he IMO added flavor, in fact some of the funniest stuff in the Lounge was those two going at it. In that sense he'll be missed. His temper tantrums, maybe not so much, but I don't need you all perfect, just don't bore me. :P
oh really well I guess that makes it us 3 who have so much in common then, you just need to work on your counting a little bit

With no disrespect, it's a bit of an assumption to say that dum and MW were the only ones constantly against the Iraq war and the tactics employed by the USA and their allies. I have always been against it, as I'm sure have many others, we just chose not to get into most of the political threads. If I wanted to debate politics, I would find a more suitable political forum, or Facebook group or whatever else (for most issues at least).

I have 2 cousins in the British Army, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and I want them out of there soon before they end up on the casualty list. They are not in favour of serving there either, but it's their duty and given the state of the economy and the unemployment situation, neither is willing to take a chance and buy themselves out, especially as one has 2 kids and lives in Army owned accomodation.

Forge is correct - dum was usually the aggressor in his many set tos, but would be in complete denial about this and then try to portray HIMSELF as the victim, in spite of him constantly upping the ante and pouring more fuel on the flame. TBH, MW might think I'm dull and boring (I care not one iota), but I actually prefer 3Phase, because in spite of his constant whinging, he gets my respect for his knowledge of music technology - which is why I personally come here. I go elsewhere for politics, talk on tv/movies and celebrity gossip etc.

Why does he have to be?

There are 2 kinds of people on this world:

1. Those that see the internet as merely an extension of our real world and lives; where we must all (for the most part) play by the rules and treat each other with dignity and respect and love and never ever EVER be an asshole. Well, we're allowed to get a little hot under the collar, but only if we keep that behaviour in serious check and remember that people have feelings.

2. Those that see the internet as a fantasy land; where you can be whomever you want to be. Where you can bring as much or as little of your *real* self into the interwebs as you'd like. Where YOU decide if you're going to be a raving fucking asshole lunatic, or an exact carbon copy of yourself. Or something in the middle or outside.

I'm firmly in Camp #2. Anyone who isn't needs a fucking lobotomy. And, ironically, a reality check. :P

dum could be a real asshole. But I'm honestly scratching my head here because, well, if dum got under your skin that much ON AN INTERNET FORUM, how the fuck do some of you cope out in the real world??? Jebus. Seriously. dum is a mere child compared to some of the assholes we all have to deal with throughout life. Maybe that's it. Maybe some of you see the interwebs as a break from all that mean behaviour in the real world. If so, you should still schedule yourself for that lobotomy.

I remember when he started talking about how he could write the Live code better than the developers in order to get stable clock sync. When someone with actual knowledge started questioning how he would do so - what algorithms he would start with and what not - he barely responds. When he did, his response was utterly nonsensical.

He's good for a laugh, I'll give him that. But again, if I'm Ableton and I've got one ban to hand out per week, and my choices are:

dum
Is a megalomaniacal asshole.
Won't shut the fuck up.
Occasionally criticises Ableton - but almost always in the Lounge
Rarely posts in General

3phase
Is a megalomaniacal asshole.
Won't shut the fuck up.
Constant, unrelenting criticism of Ableton and the developers
Always posts in General. Never posts in the Lounge.

There's really just no choice at all. Someone is directly hurting my business and won't shut the fuck up. But I'm going to ban the guy who pretty much stays in the Lounge where only the inmates live and regular customers know to avoid.

omfg.

Honestly.

Someone should be fired over that decision.

I mean, dum calling alex.the.forge a fucking asshole mong might hurt alex.the.forge.

But if I'm a business owner, I'm going to ban the asshole who keeps calling my product out as SHIT and possibly cost me a sale.

*shrug*

I'd take this a step further and add that most people present themselves in a way they want to be perceived IRL even, and very rarely does this presentation have anything to do with how they act. Far too many times I've met people who did the whole outlaw biker thing for instance, and after getting to know them you realize they're this honorable family man. I've conversely met nice guy acting family men who have no souls who will take your last dime from you and sleep with your wife etc.

...and leeds, your non observations, your constant need to try to stop conversations about the Palestinian situation are exactly the kind of non stance that can and will change when/if Israeli forces are universally condemned by everybody in the west including the US and Canada. This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about, as if you need to compartmentalize your politics away from music? Fine for you I suppose, but there's a long history of politically motivated music, and politics are pretty much a part of life whether you want them to be or not.

I come here mainly for the music related chat, no doubt, but the main reason I come her more than other forums is that it's all allowed, politics, off color humor, chat about anything really. The bar where the musicians chat, you know? the odd ducks and megalomaniacal unstable drug addicts? Not the kids park where the family men change their babies diapers , chat about the neighbors, and tell office jokes.

i'm not sure what "real world" you live in but people get knocked the fuck out for talking that kind of trash at that level of disrespect in the real world i've been living in. some of ‘em end up in puddles of their own piss and blood. i seriously doubt i'm the only one on this forum that can say that... in fact, i know i'm not.

like you said though, its the internet... ok, but whats so difficult about having a little respect and common courtesy??

by the line of rationale that you and MW are putting out there dum is one of 2 things:

1) a real asshole
2) a wannabe asshole

i guess one could be considered slightly better than the other... but then there's that pesky Community Guidelines thing the people that actually own this "bar" that you're hanging out at hung over the door. so don't get too upset when your buddy gets b0unced...

oh SNAP! see what i did there?

I'm not upset, he chose to get banned obviously, my whole contention has been that some of you, and you're the #1 offender here, made some guy on an internet forum with a temper problem your mortal enemy and plastered threads with your little romantic arguments. Your own hatred of someone you never met IRL made any conversation with dum involved likely to devolve at an even quicker rate, and because of that you were as responsible for the 4chan-ing of this place as he was.

Also, no offense dude, but none of us are UFC contestants and all of us have had to listen to some blow hard giant of man say shit we didn't like without threatening that guy with a fight we would lose. But yeah on the internet we're all Royce Gracie to every person who bests us in a verbal argument.
