Apply FX to only a small section?

So I have a vocal clip recorded in Session view... can I apply, say, compression to only a certain section the clip? Not compress the whole thing, but just the parts that are too loud.

Another way of asking would be, can I make my very last word be all echoey, without applying Delay to the whole track?

Have you tried automating it in the clip view? Go to clip view and automate compressor "device on" on only the parts you need it on

you can either turn the effect on or off, using clip or track automation.

for delays or reverbs it works better to use a return track and automate the send level.

you could also have two versions of the track, one with the effect and one without.
