Do you use another daw with Ableton live?

Post by Grottoman » Fri Dec 10, 2010 9:01 pm

For my thesis I'm currently creating a survey and I want to find out what kind of music apps bedroom musicians use; just to have a good idea on what people use next to or with Ableton. I'm sorry, it's a pretty boring question but I'm interested in the answers!

Thanx alot

Been using an old copy of Cubase SX3, but Reaper 4 looks pretty tasty, I might finally give them a go when that comes out

Just Ableton - Curious to know what other people are using other DAWS for? Something that can't be done in ableton?

I've just started to learn Logic and even though people go on about its powerful audio engine, and that may be true. I just don't like it compared with Ableton!
Thank You,
geddy

Logic for composition. I've found that I'm much more productive and efficient when producing with Logic because it's more conducive to making decisions and encourages getting things done rather than endlessly experimenting. I find Live much more suited to live performance uses and hope that Ableton focuses on that original aspect of Live.

So it goes like Maschine -> Logic -> Live

Cubase 5 here, it has a real sample editor that I love and an extremely nice mixer. Plus as an arrangement sequencer it's much easier on the eyes & brain than ableton's arrangement view. The workflow for using both together is convoluted and ever changing....there's really no perfect way to do it. But, I love both programs, and will probably update to both Live 9 (well, assuredly really) and Cubase 6 next year (guessing they will both be announced at NAMM).

Same. At home, Cubase 5 and Live 7. I occasionally use Reaper, mostly if I am taking the laptop on a field trip to record someone where I don't want to break or lose the Cubase dongle.

Although I am proficient in Logic and Protools too, given I worked with them daily for almost 9 years.

I use Live 8 & often mix down in Pro Tools 9 LE but I really prefer using Live only, which is why I hope they improve Arrangement view for Live 9. Right now I'm working on ambient stuff for an installation so I'm doing everything in Live.

Just Live for production and live shows. I do chuck rendered-out tunes into Sound Forge for a little polishing up if they need it.
