Do you use another daw with Ableton live?
Re: Do you use another daw with Ableton live?
I only use Live now. Even for mastering.
I used to use Cubase, then Logic along with Live but I've been able to get rid of both and just use Live.
I generally don't record vocals anymore which is one big reason. If i was recording vocals again I'd still use Logic with it for the "comping" features that Live is missing.

Just curious how you like to approach mastering in Live. Particularly stereo widening - I feel like Logic has some nice plugs and that's about the only thing I do with Logic anymore. Any go-to techniques or plugs to kind of finalize your mixes in Live (particularly w/r/t placing things in the stereo field nicely)?I only use Live now. Even for mastering.
thanks!
Oh, to the OP I guess I only use Live 8 then dump the stems into Logic 8 for final polishing.

I used to use Cubase and Live - using Live session view for working with loops and sound mangling then into Cubase for any MIDI and mixing. A couple of years ago I decided to abandon Cubase and get to grips with the arrangement view in Live. The routing flexibility is brilliant. I still miss having a horizontal mixer window but can live with it. I find midi editing more fiddly in Live but can do what I need to do. I still make use of Celemony Melodyne as an audio editor. I master in Live using UAD plugins.

I use Digital Performer, and sometimes Logic- mainly for older songs, with Live.
For all the things Live doesn't do, offer more than one type of automation recording, larger automation grid vertically, some MIDI editing features, better mixer - switchable horizontal size, SysEx, multiple mix downs in the same instance of the project, multiple lengths in the same instance.
It is true that DP and Logic are much easier to mix down a song in, so that ends up being the primary reason, secondly Live offers somewhat limited MIDI, not bad, not at the level of DP or Logic. Also just resizing tracks in Live's Arrangement vertically can be frustrating, as it seems there are huge JUMPS it makes in size when you use the key commands to resize all tracks. So you're kind of fighting the interface a bit. Mainly use Live though, I like DP, but I'm far too entrenched in Live at this point.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I see that only a few use Reason/Record next to ableton.
The only thing i really miss in reason/record is a better mastering suite. I suspect it to be updated with the next versions though.

Logic.
Much prefer to record my guitar parts in Logic, and it also focuses me and stops mr farting around constantly!
