Master Quantization trick/question?

Post by keithkemp » Thu May 26, 2005 4:02 pm

hey all.
a friend showed me this interesting trick with the master quantization in Live 3.0, but it seems to have disappeared in Live 4.0. i am wondering if i am missing it somewhere or if it is just gone....so here is a quick description.
(please note, all experiments were done with Apple Powerbooks using OS 9.0)
in Live 3.0, he figured out that when hitting open apple and the number 1 thru "changed" the master quantization rate.
open apple 1 was set to bar
open apple 2 was set to half bar
and so on....down to 32nd notes i believe.
this was a interesting little function for me when performing live. for example, i have 3 midi notes mapped to my controller to go up, down and fire off scenes. so when starting a new scene i sometimes changed the quantization to 1/4 notes and kept taping the "trigger" note. this effectively reduced my playing samples to 1/4 notes and the audio produced a "looping" sort of effect, akin to some of the audio fx Richie Hawtin does during his dj sets.
this also allowed for tons of stuttered randomness if i suddenly changed the quantization to16th notes and started trigger scenes like crazy...
a las, i think this function has disappeared in Live 4.0...can anyone help me out?

It's gone unfortunately. Instead this key combo has been delegated to adjusting the grid. Hopefully Live 5 will bring it back or better yet let me assign it to a midi controller.
