yes.

In fact I think I pretty much do suck.

Sometimes it's like an insidious evil bastard like cocaine or nicotine or something that you absolutely hate and have no idea why you keep doing it, but you just keep on doing it.

Then there are other times where I can't believe I did it and think I must be a genius. Those moments tend to be short lived though.

I usually don't feel like I suck at making music, but many other people tend to respectfully disagree with that sentiment. 8O

I'll be releasing my first album soon, it's going to have 900 tracks because none of my tracks are more than 16 bars long.
+1

Same here man. I would define our production to synthesis: We use Additive production while some use the Subtractive Method. I have so many 1-2 minute bullshit songs but I enjoy nothing more than going back months later and being like what the hell is that song and then opening it and realizing the true potential that I didn't hear before and then finally finishing it.

I think after enough years of working on music and as you get older it starts mentally weighing heavy when nobody is really listening to your shit (unless people actually are). It's a combination of everything else you do in your life has purpose the older you get and starting to feel like you're reaching some kind of age related make it or break it deadline, like maybe your purposeless music should be replaced by something else with purpose. At the same time you probably don't have the interest, stomach, or connections to be a promotion whore. Couple that with 100 new tracks of what you think is great is being released somewhere on the internet each day.

All the above makes music less fun. And admit it, if you really were all that inspired you would actually be finishing tracks instead of letting Ableton lead you down the never ending loop construction pit.

No! Take up gardening. Much more rewarding and realistic.

I was going to hang myself but then my ceiling made this weird squeaking noise, I just had to sample it.

A friend of mine asked me to make a hip hop beat for him. I tried, tried again and decided to never make anything close to hip hop.

you can spend hours on a new track, thinking its really something good.
Then when you listen to a CD mix on the radio, suddenly your new tune begins to suck.

Really? At least for myself personally I've found radio tracks to be over compressed and overproduced.

That term always cracks me up. "They took a very basic song and then processed it to the point of sounding awesome. I hate that shit!"

Even funnier when said on a forum where most people produce electronica where the computer is doing 95% of the work.

touche, I thought about it after i wrote it. I forgot that most people here would most likely enjoy "overproduction". i don't know though when you compress and eq everything so it sounds "perfect" you lose the edge and the energy that the original songwriting had. Just my thoughts not trying to convince anyone.

You don't have to convince me, I totally agree.

Agreed as a general music point, but with electronica production (or over production) trumps just about every other aspect of the music. Looking at sheet music from electronica is hilarious.

...Aphex Twin is not what I mean by "over-produced", though.
