Pattern Sequencer like in FL
This would greatly speed up drum/percussion creation. What do you guys think?
YES, YES, YES!!!
YES!!! I've already suggested one elegant and easy solution here some weeks ago... What about to add naming keys in "fold mode" of virtual keyboard? What do you think?
(Connecting of external multichannel vst to Impulse would by also nice...)

I don't exactly understand what you mean? Can you explain?tankista wrote:What about to add naming keys in "fold mode" of virtual keyboard? What do you think?
That would also be nice but this is talking about something different then what I had in mind. Let me explain myself better.estereofonico wrote:yep...this would be really nice...and more sample slots...lets have 16 instead of 8...
I really like the Step Sequencer in FL Studio becuase it's so fast and easy to creating drums/percussion.
Then I thought, what is the best way to implement something like this in Live.
And I came up with this possible (imaginary) scenerio:
1. S+click on a sample in the file browser.
2. A new MIDI track is automatically created and Simpler is automatically inserted into this MIDI track and the clicked sample is automatically inserted into Simpler.
3. The Simpler has two options of creating MIDI notes: the standard Piano Roll or the Step sequencer like in FL.
4. So you switch to the step sequencer view and make the pattern which creates MIDI object on the track.
5. Then you use a Copy+Paste Pen tool: this tool will allow you to first select the source object (O+click on midi/audio object), and then paint with it (paste) to where ever you want. It will disallow overlapping objects and nicely snap them to grid.
6. To delete object you will use an Eraser tool.
Well, that is what I have came up with. I think this is the easiest way to implement FL's Step Sequencer feature.
What do you guys think?

I also wanted to add that it would be cool if in Simpler's "Step Sequencer View" you could see other tracks (an option which allows you to choose which other MIDI track you would like to see together at once) so that you have a reference when creating new patterns (just like in FL's step sequencer window)
more tracks together
To see more tracks together is one of the few things that I feel the lack of Ableton's Live. Its gravely needed to compose music.
Re: Pattern Sequencer like in FL
i think there should be should be 2 modes. step seq and piano roll for all clips.
ableton would benifit a great deal with a step seq. a friend of mine has cubase 5. the pattern/step on that is top class. you can slice a loop, add the sounds to cubase 5 new drum maschine and then add a step seq to it. we created beats so easy. much easier than making beats on native instruments which ive just wasted £450 on.

defo, the step seq on FL studio is very easy to use, and it would be very usful for chucking together a beat (even if its just to start with, while more complex/permenant beats are developed)

If you really need this functionality *now*, FL has a 50% off Xmas offer:

Re: Pattern Sequencer like in FL
whats wrong with fold mode of piano roll with drum rack? Its more powerful, u have clip envelopes, groove control....
also there r 100s of step sequencer in m4l, unlikely they will implement one as standard....
.... besides you name some very good reasons

in flstudio is faster and more intuitive , at least in these regards.
you dont need to switch back and for between pencil and select mode. mouses on the year 2010 have 3 buttons...
one to add notes and select and drag them , the other to delete them.
yes with the select mode you can DOUBLE click and you'll add a note , but you have to DOUBLE click it , so if i was going to add a total of 25 notes y would have to click 50 times , it might seem not important to you if you are used to double clicking or you say you are used to changing between modes. but is a fact is just faster.
flsutio step seq alsa has some beautifull contrasted bars every 1/4 of bar , so is very intuiitive where is every beat.
drum racks is great yeah...
but these points could be better.
Re: Pattern Sequencer like in FL
would probably mean they have to make a new device as there r piano roll view and device view on the bottom. And for new devices there is m4l with as said tons of drum machines/step sequencer, so i doubt they will even think about this
Re: Pattern Sequencer like in FL
Sonar has a few nice features in the Step Sequencer that Live could steal some ideas from.

Watch "Drum Production I Part 3".
I particularly like how you can time offset individual notes. Is there perhaps a way to do this in Live already? (apart from moving the notes themselves, of course
)
The flam (per note) functionality is nice as well.
