Hadware Sequencer

although my sequencing needs are handled by my apple PB4 i am trying really really hard (

) to resist the temptation to buy a VINTAGE hardware sequencer. i know i know .. waste of space but i ought to have one ... which one would you consider and ... yes of course ... aesthetics are also a massive factor in chosing THE ONE (therefore no Kawai's)

i had an asq10 for a long time.
a little strange to get used to, sequences are made up of lots of little
bits that you can string in any order... oh hey wait
thats like live!

it's a nice machine, and has seperate 4 midi outs too, 16 channels each!

hi fmass,

have you looked into the RS7000? I use one in conjunction with Live, have a PB as well...it's a pretty good and stable sequencer...also pretty good control surface for live, you can assign CC values to most of the knobs and send them to the 2 midi outs...sort of cheap second hand these days.

dunno if it meets your Vintage requirements but it certainly will offer you more option down the line than mmt8 ( a very good sequencer btw).

hm, well yes, I guess is cheaper if you paid something like 800 pounds 2 or 3 years like muggins here...still...how about the RM1x, the same thing without the sampler...owned that too, dirt cheap now...button and knobs a bit flimsy but a good 16 tracks sequencer, very good midi implementation...and no, i don't work for yamaha...

no, the rm1x is NOT the same thing - the sequencer is quite inferior to the rs7k, mostly because they stopped making it, and never properly updated the software

well, there's your first mistake.

the Q80 variants were great sequencers

you'll never find one, but the Latronic Notron should be at the top of your list.

otherwise, get an MMT8!

I lllluurve my Schaltwerk! It is awesome for throwing together beats in Live4, and once you start looping the midi.... woah.
And since Doepfer actually stopped making the Schaltwerk, i guess it'll be vintage hip pretty soon! ;)

however

both doepferinos and yamahinas are too "new" to fit my rig despite technically speaking are both super ...
if i wanted a modern sequencer i would get on of these now

fmass, your intentions are good wrt the vintage bit - but you're missing the point: check the maq link again...

look for "used by".... kraftwerk... human league... jarre....

If you want "vintage" synth lines you want a step sequencer. Period.
The maq and esp. the p3 are good in that respect, since they can also do quite modern sounds - so they won't send you back to the early eighties and leave you there. These machines do the very simple 1-bar riffs of the 70's and 80's but they are also capable of the autechrey math-musicey weirdbits.
