On the fly tempo changes?...and a DJ question...

Hey guys,

I just listened to Sasha's Ableton Live Essential Mix, and reguardless of what you think of the content, I noticed he gradually increases and decreases tempo throughout the set. I'm at work now and can't play with Live, and I was wondering if you can automate such tempo changes or was he manually doing this?

I was also wondering how you guys are setting up your .als files for DJ mixing. I got live mainly for mixing (I use Logic for composing) and the way I've been setting up my tracks doesn't seem to be working great. I've been using the arrange page to put the mix together and manually doing everything. I've noticed on here some screenshots of Djs, and they are using the session view and doing mixes with different scenes. Which way do you guys do things?

i use the tempo wheel on my controler to control the tempo ,it's a rotary encoder so it's more acurate than anormal pot .the problem is that it move the tempo by 2.4 bpm per increment & it's really hard to assign .(i only managed to assign it once )

You can change this by changing the bounds in master track.

The Session view is the ONLY way to use Live for DJing.

Give yourself something like 4 or 5 channels (decks). Set up some EQ on each one for killing bass, etc.. Break down all your music into a mixture of short looping clips and whole tracks and you're away.

As you get more confident consider adding in FX to the channels, use more varied loops such as accapellas, percussion loops, etc.. You will be mixing and mashing in no time at all.
