So anyone else besides me still on the fence about upgrading? I have several concerns, such as the .GRU or .KIT portion of the entire Guru factory library not loading in Geist. Apparently you've got to resave them yourself one by one with Guru 1.5 or later. Or perhaps FX eventually comes up with an export tool or rerelease of the library as they briefly mention on the forum. But who knows if/when that might happen.
The other big issue is that Geist isn't loading any non-factory samples in user presets saved with Guru. Some of the longer pad sample file names are cutoff too, which makes them a pain to relocate. And Geist doesn't show sample names, just a generic name on the pad, so it's extremely difficult to export my Guru work to Geist. I'm really torn at this point about whether to use both Geist & Maschine or just render my Guru stuff as loops & just use Maschine from now on. Opinions from any Guru users how to proceed?

@icedsushi
I'm not upgrading until these issues are sorted. Simple really.

Thanks, that's what I was leaning towards as well, just wanted to hear how others are dealing with it. I don't want to spend the time messing around with all those issues myself when it could be fixed by FX in the first place & I could be making music instead.
I'm going move on & use Maschine for now & forget about Guru & what I've done with it until there's some kind of news concerning these issues. I really wish they would have put more of an effort into planning the Guru transition & providing a few more routine updates before rushing to blast Geist onto the market. Just the fact that Geist is now released makes future updates of Guru doubtful at best. At the same time it seems pointless to start saving new work with Guru in the meantime without updating. They're just giving previous customers reasons to assimilate to a competitor's product in the meantime.
Even without the backwards compatibility issues, I'm not wild about how how Geist doesn't show the file name of the sample on the pad. Hey I like that snare I used on that other project, oh man where was that from again? Oh yeah look it's called "Pad 1"
. Raise your hand, who wants to take notes what samples they used? Guru & Maschine both do it. Hunting down samples like that is one of the things that could make it more time consuming & tedious for me to work with Geist.

Yup, GURU is now dead in the water.. this is what's on the product page: 'Legacy Product: GURU is no longer available'icedsushi wrote:Just the fact that Geist is now released makes future updates of Guru doubtful at best. You can't buy it, and from their products page this is what's said about Legacy Products 'Older FXpansion products that are no longer being developed.'
I'm still waiting for a final release of GURU 1.6 rather than the beta they've had up for ages (
GURU 1.6.x (Public beta) V. 1.6.12 Release Date: 1.4-.2009 Version Type: Public Beta). Don't know why they've left this hanging so long.. other than to develop GEIST but it's sure not helping my opinion of them.

well true, at the moment it doesn't do it automatically which is a pain but you can do it manually.icedsushi wrote:I'm not wild about how how Geist doesn't show the file name of the sample on the pad.
