Glitching sound while recording (example included!)

Post by restlessboy » Wed Nov 11, 2009 10:31 pm

Recently I've started noticing intermittent sounds appearing whilst recording audio. They could be described as glitches or buzzes or skips. They happen more when actively recording but also happen less frequently whilst the monitor is armed but not recording. Sometimes they appear to occur in time with mouse clicks but not always.

It happens using both of my microphones and my guitar input. not when using soft synths etc.

My setup is
Live 8.0.5
Mac OS X - iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I'm using an m-audio firewire Ozonic as the hardware interface. I've been using this same thing for about three years and only recently started experiencing this problem.

Nothing has changed in my studio - other than upgrading to Live 8, but it didn't start immediately when i did that, only with the last few weeks.

My computer sits near our wifi hub but it has done for a year and this hasn't happened. Could that be the cause?

My instinct, based on the sound, is that it's something internal to the computer or software. I can record very nicely and cleanly without noise and the glitching occurs. I've tried varying the buffer size but nothing seems to definitively solve it.

Others have talked at length about click/pop problems. I'm not convinced this is the same thing. I can offer a 4 second mp3 which demonstrates it to anyone willing to help.

Any suggestions very much welcomed.

Did you ever figure out what your problem was? I'm experiencing the same thing now.

Thanks

Hi, I get the same thing, clicks and interference, but I'm using a PC. If you figured out how to solve it, please share.

Thanks!

For me it ended up that the buffer in my preferences was set too low. I raised it from 256 to 512 and it works fine now

r u with this problem using bluetooth? this werid mouse noise started with apple's b&w g3 and usb mouse. they sent new owners a fix...an ext. cord w a ferrite bead. that just fixed frozen mouse issue...this was on pro tools. it would still occur on mouse hold down randomly.

i caution all to use dual ferrite beads. DPC interrupts occur on macintels / ppc macs too. http://www.granite.com http://www.kimber.com get an ext cord for trackball or mouse with ferrite beads or purchase clampon style at electronic shops that build custom pcs sell components. sorry bout typos im chicken pecking on a tiny keyboard...arrrg!
