i think i have found the prob to why live does not sometimes sync up correctly and drift

follow these instructions below for midi syncing, but then read on...........

Both machines have to have some type of midi interface.

Run the midi out from your master machine to the midi in on the slave machine.

On your master machine go to Ableton/Prefs - midi/sync - and on the output dropdown choose your interface that will be sending midi to the slave.

On your slave machine go to Ableton/Prefs - midi/sync - and on the input dropdown choose the interface that will be recieving midi from the master.

On your slave machine activate the external sync switch. This is to the left of the tempo indicator and is marked EXT.

You should be all set. When you run your master machine the slave should follow.

Run the metronome on both machines and in Ableton / prefs - midi/sync adjust the sync delay until the machines are matched.

If you happen to be using two airport equipped macs running osx than download iMidi. It allows you to midi sync two macs running osx through the airports, no interfaces or midi cables needed, and I must say it works great!

----------------------------------------------------------

Now the reason why sometimes they can dirft apart is a conflict with mid signals.,

in the preferences page u must make sure if u are the master machine that u only have the Midi Out setup, and at the top where u enable devices for inputs u must make sure ur midi input is not selected.

if ur on the slave machine then the reverse applies, midi-in setup but no devices or midi outs open,

i have fault finded this, and have done hours with live synced up perfectly with no issies.

obviously i had to adjust the midi latency which was about 12ms
