Launchpad + Aurex sequencers question

Post by EinarF » Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:37 am

Just got the fantastic Aurex step sequencers and FX mashing templates up and running and WOW am I having the most fun I´ve ever had with Ableton! But I have one question: have any of you had any luck integrating additional MIDI controllers into these sets without messing up the(very complicated) MIDI assignments neccesary to make the whole thing work? I have a Vestax VCM-100 that I´d like to map to two channels in a more conventional DJ-style to complement the Troxic drum machine, but it seems like every slider on the Vestax clashes with something already mapped to the Launchpad, and I´m too scared to try re-mapping the Launchpad midi assignments.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Most midi controllers allow you to set the global midi channel so you can avoid any conflict.

I think, from memory, the Launchpad uses (is hard wired in fact) midi channels 1,6,7 & 5. (please double check this first tho)

Therefore you could use any of the other 16 midi channels for the other devices you may have.

If you have many devices you may want go further and program each one to send out a different note or CC for each button/fader etc...

It can take a while if you've loads of devices and you do need to take written notes.

In the end though you will have a broad range of controller options that do not conflict each other.

I can use the Aurex sequencers along with my BRC2k (in Mackie EMU), midi keys (global midi channel 15), 2 drum pads (8 & 16) and a foot controller (14)

Another point to add is that many modern, designated Live controllers such as APC40, Lauchpad etc now use scripting and code to avoid conflict, even though they share the same channel. Cannot advise on this as its well over my head though the above method works... and if you take the time, gives you god like domain over all you see. 8)
