I keep getting MIDI lockups using Ableton Live Intro 8.2.1 on a Dell Inspiron with an Intel Core2Duo processor using Windows XP Home with SP3. I have made all the requisite teaks to maximize audio performance.
My latest lockup was while using one of the Live included instruments called "Track Team Bass" using the "BS8" instrument!
I use the Native Instruments Rig Kontrol external processor and MIDI interface. I run Tracktion, Acid, Reaper and Cubase without this problem.
I really dig Live and its' efficient work flow but it seems as though I've waited forever to get the MIDI part of Live running properly!
If you have any ideas what the problem is, please let me know.
