My latest record - all done in Live 6 - FREE till Xmas

Shameless plug.

If you need a short break from all that bleeding-edge furious beat bending madness and have the time to spare a little bandwidth on our debut album...here it is FREE to download until Xmas day.

All recorded in Live 6 at home in York, UK...we make an odd kind of pop racket for the most part - mostly using acoustic guitars, close harmonies and anything that looks like it could make a cool noise.

Not afraid to wander convincingly from sultry '40's-style torch songs to distorted howling via folk songs with vivid soundscapes & kooky synth warbles, we follow a pretty idiosyncratic path.

Cheers!

Eggnog!

I like it! Especially the melodies and harmonies, they work great, and allthough it sounds great, the drums are a bit dry for my taste.

True North reminds me of a LP I have but I can't remember wich one.

Personally, I don’t really listen to this kind of music but I gotta say that you did a great job. I actually really like your sound, something I could definitely listen to.

Thanks!

Agree that the drums are a bit of a weak point on the whole. It's all sampled or EZ drummer apart from 2 tracks. If we'd had the space & budget, it would've been real drums all the way. But we made this whole record for roughly 1500 quid and a large chunk of that was for mastering.

I'm really proud of what we achieved using Live 6, an old G4 Mac with a 24/96 soundcard and a couple of decent mics for the early stages, then a slightly better mac mini & Profire preamp to finish it. All done in a small flat in the city centre ( with all the fucking headaches THAT brings with it )

I just want a few more people to hear it now, and I think it's a good advert for Ableton Live's versatility - & hopefully further proof that you can make a 'proper' record with Live if you really want to. And it will sound just as good as anything done in any other DAW.

Feel free to share the link with anyone btw -

Not to shabby, really liked Dead End Station. Like mentioned the drums could use some beefing up but theres some good stuff on here nevertheless.

Here's a taster track.

It's a song written in a certain style, a 1940's jazz-inflected thing with double bass, brushed snare, tenor guitars & so on. The sort of recording that would be challenging enough to get sounding right in any top studio.

Here's our home-produced attempt using whatever & whoever was available & Ableton Live.
