I should clarify that I don't think ALL ableton staff think of us as "fans". But whoever is in control of marketing and promotion seems to have a background in the record industry, where promotion is all about "providing access" to high value stars. There the consumer lives out their dreams through other peoples work and persona. Not so much here!

I think the crux of this is:
The gift treats us as "consumers" glad to be given content by a famous Name Celebrity (whoever)

But in fact we mainly consider ourselves as "creators"

There is a big difference there, and it shows how ableton thinks of their customers. Not as creatives, but as fans. I don't really care what some celeb has made.


Perhaps I am wrong, perhaps the bulk of live users want nothing more than to receive "DJ Famous's turn things on and off" pack. But I prefer to believe in Lives customer base as full of people making their own shit up.

that were my exact thoughts when I got the mail.. these celeb packs do nothing for me, maybe for a larger group they do, dunno..
I would've selected a gift that almost all people could get creative with such as presets, samples, etc..

I just feel that they need to re-connect with their user-base in some meaningful way. Its like NI and Ableton switched places.

I think the truth of it is that the two companies are at different stages in their lives. NI had some years of innovation, then a big chunk of time where they were mainly famed for lack of imagination and letting their users down. Recently they've managed to turn this around with a range of lowered prices, and innovative hardware.

I think Ableton fell victim to the same thing that happened to NI in about 2001 - they grew very quickly and struggled with the inevitable transition from "new kids with their finger on the pulse" to "giant company with lots of people whose names they can't remember" . It takes a little while to manage growth like that and I'm guessing they mainly spent this year doing just that.

I'm making a bold prediction that next year will be a lot better than this one was for Ableton.
well, lets hope so eh? Other wise we will all be looking for a new DAW provider!

I wish for christmas that finaly one will popup that renovates the pattern concept again in a daw and focuses on stage interaction.. not on stage reproduction.. A real competitor..
Actually NAtive could and should do it.. But i prefer them to do it together with Celemony..because than it will be high end and practical.

Sice working with warpmarkesr started to make so much work there are really not much advatages left for using the software. controler assignments ok.. but that you only really handle theese controles in a arrange mode during production makes this advantage in the studio rather little..
And the sound..are there really guys out there that experiance lives sounds as good as the one of the big DAW´s? can
I allways wonder when i hear such statements. Are they payed or threatend by ableton? or just deff?
Or is there a mac audio engine bug of unknown kind? Brown Henke dither in the summing ? or no dithering it all because one cant hear 24 bit truncation? or assuming that aliasing filtering after the mix bus is mathematical the same as before the mixbus...or is this rme interface related? In my studio its allways a relive for the tracks when i transfer them to logic or cubase for mixdown.. really like getting on the big stage.. however..
that difference became smaller every year but this must be just pro ableton psychology because they themself state that theire changes to the audioengine are inaudible...
What brings me to the point ..Ableton statements.. Its allmost like listening to the speakers of big political partys...and one wonders how this happened to a small company.. a professional public relations agent? dont they need to spend the money for better code?
And last but not least.. theire promotion campaigns.. like in a cheap brothel.. Shiny new controlers for the bling..but compared to machine overpriced and halfdeveloped..and the worst..they stay halfdeveloped..no functional update what so ever..Blender products..just for the advertizement boost..
Rectivied rainer campaigns and livepacks from artist unknown elektronik produktion newbys... to show that one can record a violin with ableton live... i guess they really include a score editor now to show that they are a classy program..
Problem..you cant buy love..and you cant buy class.

it was an answer to angströms trust in the better of a compny that hasnt left much clues to get to such a belive-- as i ve pointed out in my daily ableton bashing.
